Get to da clubAside form everything else, I want the Canes to take it to 7 because of these fairweather ass Panthers fans. 2:11 left, it's 2-0, your team is up 3-0 in the series while being the defending champions, and you don't think they at least deserve your attention until the end? Half the lower bowl was empty at the center faceoff.
Typical Miami energy I suppose:

Higher cost of living? You have no idea how expensive stuff in the states is. I had lunch at dintaifung for 3 ppl and it cost us $150 and we weren't even full. Going back to Van I feel like everything is on discount. It's the tax thing, but it's also this:
- Shit weather just about everywhere you go in Canada (compared to the US)
- Higher cost of living for that shit weather (except for the Bay Area/NYC)
- Increased fan recognition
- Increased media pressure
- No Canadian team has won since 1993
- Many players are right-leaning and won't play outside of Trumpland
Amongst other things. It's a no brainer for most of them. Canada will only ever get the young kids who were assigned there from the draft or grinders/roleplayers/overpaid UFAs. Nobody worth noting is signing in Canada for a discount. It's much better to be stinking rich in the US than it is here, which is why they almost all want to play there. It's just better to be poor/lower middle class here.

Yeah prices has crept up a lot. Lunch these days in a normal restaurant, not fancy ones by any stretch is like 30 per.150 usd? Ouch...

Went to NYC for a biz trip and a drink and entree at a random spot is around 65usd. Went to London for a biz trip and I found that cheap and reasonable compared to the states. The only place I’ve visited recently that felt a bit more expensive than the states was Geneva lol
No idea, don’t understand why athletes like it here. I am guessing with the tariffs impact coming soon, even athletes are going to be pissed because of how stupid expensive normal stuff is going to beI myself never understood people's fascination with that goddamn country.
Canada has problems, but I'd take here 10/10 over the country that has "God did it" as the answer to every multiple choice question.
I was down in Seattle this weekend, Panda Express meals ran at like 20 bucks per person. I was checking rents in the Redmond/Kirkland/Bellevue areas, it's even worse than in the CoV and it's not even Seattle proper lol. If you aren't working a good tech job down there, shit's not good.Higher cost of living? You have no idea how expensive stuff in the states is. Yeah houses are expensive enough for people to pay 5K+ in rent. I have a buddy down here who buys run down apartments, refurbishes it and rents them out for like 3.5K. I would say the only fun spots are LA, NYC and Florida. I guess athletes are pretty damn boring people and like anywhere that has sun and golf courses.Rich people I can understand. It's definitely more fun down in the states and more exciting.
Lucky for me I'm perfectly content with being a boring in-door rock.
Hurray! No sweep. Another game.
I think what’s lost in the analysis is that there are more teams in the US. There are also more players having gone the college route. What this means is that more players have girlfriends/fiancees/wives who are from the States and who influence a player’s signing decisions.Amongst other things. It's a no brainer for most of them. Keeping vs acquiring I would keep separate. Typically, if you have a player that came up through your system, your chances of keeping them, if they are among the top third of the players on your roster, should be good. As, you are more than likely to sign them (especially with the 8th year option), if the money can be agreed on.I think what’s lost in the analysis is that there are more teams in the US. Aside from Ottawa where money was an issue and more recently Calgary, how many Canadian teams have had consistent issues keeping their star players? As long as the offer is competitive Canadian teams have had success keeping their players.
his PDO game is weak....should work on it over the summer....hahaHow DA FUQ is Wyatt Johnston -18 on the playoffs
That makes no damn sense
There isn’t anybody within a country mile of him

But, like your prior point, when it comes to convincing players to come here, that's a much different situation. They will have had a life elsewhere in the NHL from 20-29 before they hit UFA. Unless there is a hockey reason, contending team, familiar HC, etc. or a family reason, Van is going to be a hard sell. We've lost coaches who have returned to the East to be closer to family.
It probably is. Really depends on your own personality. Older you are the more likely you have a family so catering to their needs is a factor. So being able to go about your business as a family is important to them. Can’t say I’ve run into players, but I don’t expect I’d bother them if they are with family. But, I recognize I may be in the minority these days.I don't necessarily see the acquiring part as a problem. UFA is one way of acquiring players and as much as I love Vancouver it isn't the most attractive city by reputation and some US cities have better tax environments and more privacy (as in less people who recognize you). We just have to accept that.
Like another poster mentioned, life as a rich person is better elsewhere.
I've seen it some - usually at rinks, but other places too. Most people were always classy about itIt probably is. Really depends on your own personality.
