Does that mean Poolman presented himself for a physical to ensure he was paid?
Poolman isn't on LTIR right now. He is on conventional IR so far this "season" as they are under the cap with him. They don't want to go into the year using LTIR like last year. They want to accrue as much cap space as possible before the deadline. So the plan is to hold off putting him on LTIR until the deadline if at all possible. Now he could be moved to LTIR in the next few days but as of a couple weeks ago they were hoping not to put him on LTIR. Desire and reality are two different things of course.

However, as we wrote about on Tuesday, Allvin ideally wants to avoid using LTIR this season full stop if possible. Of course, this is not an ideal situation, with the Canucks general manager acknowledging that they will have to go down this road at some point.

With this in mind, the plan is to hold off on placing Poolman on LTIR until around the trade deadline if possible. Taking this approach would allow the Canucks to accrue some valuable cap space during the season.

And from the press conference coming into camp.

“What we want to do is start the season without someone on LTIR,” he said.

That’s a notable admission. The Canucks were frustrated at the deadline last year by their cap situation — they were over the cap, with the bulk of Tucker Poolman’s contract shuffled onto LTIR.

At the moment, they are under the cap, even with Poolman placed on conventional injured reserve. And if they stay under the cap as the season progresses, the savings made will accrue and could make a very useful total come the trade deadline — they could add a veteran player for another playoff push.

Neely is a f***ing idiot.

Him and the Bruins deserve each other.

f*** him and that franchise.
Neely is an idiot because he won't just give the guy a blank cheque....... yeah ok. Cam just stepped on the gas. One would think he'd have a bit of street cred in Beantown. Really weird guy to rail on IMHO.

f*** Jack Gordon and Tom Watt and whoever didn't notice Barry Pederson had a tumor the size of a grapefruit remove from his arm.

Timothy Liljegren never fully gained the trust of the former coach, and he's starting well behind the eight ball with the new one. He's at risk of getting passed on the depth chart by Conor Timmins and/or Marshall Rifai...”

That is quite the precipitous fall.

Did you know that there's a regular season hockey game today? At 10am? In Prague? The Sabres vs Devils? Did you know that?

this and there’s still pre season games being played today and tomorrow. SMH.
Regular Season today and tomorrow morning at seven am, then a three day break because reasons.
Preseason games still going all weekend including Monday, regular season games restart Tuesday afternoon..

HNIC should start tomorrow night (or a month ago).

Nhl gonna nhl.

When you go overseas, you give the clubs time to get over their jetlag upon their return.
But, it's alway odd to see real games under way while there are PS games going on.

NFL offers their clubs the option to take their bye week following their Europe games. Up to the team to accept it or not before they release their schedule.

Man, this is apparently the best PBP/commentary the US national broadcaster has to offer? It is awful.

Rasmus Dahlin looks outstanding.

This game looks so loose when you're used to watching a Rick Tocchet game, even played by our depth players.

Great play by Kovacevic on the 1-0 goal. Still no idea why Montreal only got a 4th (in 2026) for a 6'5 reliable RHD making only $766k.

Edit : and now Kovacevic scores.

I was just coming here to compliment what an incredible acquisition this was for NJD. They seem to make really great D man acquisitions: Siegenthaler, Marino, Kovacevic of late.

I get why they moved off him. As they have a bunch of younger Dmen that they need to figure out who can and can't play. Whether this year or next Hutson, Mailloux, Reinbacher will be pushing to get a spot. Plus Guhle is signed long term. But, need to figure out whether X, Struble, Barron are part of the solution.

Return, that was on Hughes to maximize.

There are like 20 teams that should have been lining up to give Montreal a 2nd for this player during the summer, and some contender probably should have given a late 1st for him at the deadline to get him at that salary for two playoff runs.

The NHL market is bizarre and I don't understand it.

And yeah, NJ are one of the few teams that seem to understand value propositions on D and target the right guys.

Oh, no argument. He has one year left on that cheap contract and he was totally the right guy for Montreal to move to try and maximize value. But the return was just nonsensical relative to what the market should be for a 6'5 RHD who can play leverage minutes and makes the league minimum.
