and muzzin was never as effective as his proponents would insist on

EDIT: And frankly I never liked Lecavalier's play that much. They made the trade for Lecavalier and Schenn in like what ealy January? Then basically coasted into the playoffs and coasted right out of them.

never liked that trade
not getting an Iginla or Lecavalier Kings jersey are two of my regrets in life.

I agree that he had a rough playoffs, but he did also have the lowest ozone faceoff% on the team at 48.72. It's kind of similar to Danault having the second highest xGA/60 last season, his zone starts play a factor. Anyways, Looch played 1179 minutes of 5 on 5 in the regular season and absolutely dominated for the Kings, he didn't play well in the playoffs, but that was just 67 minutes. The sample size gets tough when discussing things like that, I believe there is a difference between the playoffs and regular season, but it could have also just been a bad stretch of games for him.

Like I said I liked him here, maybe even more than most. But it was pretty clear he was getting targeted for his foot speed and his inability to get off the wall in the dzone in the playoffs.

Small sample size for sure but that happens in a playoff series when you're getting scouted harder.

And I'm definitely not blaming the whole playoffs on him, there was way more wrong than Lucic. My point was just that he was a very very good player that also had very clear, target-able deficiencies. And I'm not saying that as a bad thing per se, most players do!

I guess we all remember what we want to. My most vivid memory was how surprisingly fast he was on the rush with Toff and Carter. Also, the post win celebrations I mentioned earlier.
I don’t think it’s a case of me remembering what I want to. I guarantee if you went back to the the GDTs from that season you’d find me pointing it out left and right at the time.

That is brutal and another of the many reasons why I hate pre-season sports, that could just as easily have been Kempe or Fiala. I wish more NHL coaches did what NFL coaches did.

I don't think it was dirty hit, but it's always dangerous when you have locked in guys out there giving 75% in a meaningless pre-season game competing against bubble guys giving 110% trying to do anything they can to make a roster.

Dom & Co. over at The Athletic have been putting out their season projections. They got to the Kings today.

Kings project as 16th overall in NHL. Estimated point total of 92.6pts.

I slowed it down, it was a great hit with the shoulder the main point of impact. Not sure if his head was caught after his shoulder crumpled. It looked to me that he was paying more attention to the puck he’d just let go than the guy coming in hard.

I agree on the difference in focus based on their status but the locked in guys need to have the awareness that not going at 100% puts them at risk. That‘s why I always prefer to see players happy to take a hit as the body position is better and they are properly set for it.

Hopefully Zegras will be ok.

Well they haven’t been paying attention to Grundstrom…

Since they projected the Kings to only reach 80 points last year, I fully expect a 105+ point season:

Their projections will always biased towards veterans with production history too...won't really help the Kings by accounting for youth growth. The model is fun but that's one big flaw.

honestly i find them hard to find. Want a Iggy one just because i live in Calgary and it would piss off some friends

Can't you get that done by someone?

They must be coaches.

Well, I didn't think my first bet of the day was trying to middle Dallas and Seattle's season win totals. If there are any fellow bettors here, I would strongly suggest betting both sides on Dallas while it's at a 3 point difference. That is pretty rare to see.

Dom probably doesn't have a Kane trade baked into his total like the books likely do, but even so he is waaaaaaaaay higher on Chicago than the books. Patrick Kane at this stage of his career is not an 8 point player. He has pretty big balls if he trusts his model and his biggest bet would be the over on a team that sure looks like they are trying to tank as much as they can.

The Kings juice on DK's is -130 for under and +100 for over, which is what I expected it to be, most sharp bettors just can't look past the probability of massive regression from the Kings top 2 goal-scorers and the fact that 3 of the Kings 5 best players are very old by NHL standards. I would still not touch this because while I agree with the regression of Kempe and Danault, there are some things that can make that up. Specifically better special teams. The Kings number seems right.

And I'm not sure Dom doesn't factor in youth and progression, he has Matty Beniers projected to be a better player than Kopitar this season.

The year is 2010. A time traveling Kings fan appears to you and says:

“The following players will be Kings. Iginla, Lecavalier, Phaneuf, Kovalchuk.”

“Oh wow how many Cups do we win??”

“Two. But none with those players. And only one with Marian Gaborik.”

😮

Yeah I’m not that high on Chicago either. I do think they underrate Buffalo by a good margin, they should continue to grow under Granato. You could see the difference after the Eichel fiasco and they looked better as last season wore on. I see them right around 80-82 points this year, right along with Detroit.

Oh and BTW, Jeff Carter, Mike Richards and Dustin Penner will also be Kings.

And JJ, O'sullivan, Hickey, Bernier will all be busts.

But we still win two cups.

And Donald Trump will be president this decade.

The future is unpredictable indeed.
