Yeah just saw that, that should be like 10 games.
Was it worse than the Jeannot hit? I know Reaves has a history with this type of thing which will automatically make the suspension longer than Jeannot's, but how would we compare the hits? Reaves explodes directly into Nurse's head in a way that looked very intentional. The only potentially mitigating factor is that Nurse arguably should/could have been aware of potential danger as he was coming around the net. Maybe could have protected himself. Brock on the other hand had no reason to suspect there may be a hit from the blind side. It was a dirty, predatory hit on an unsuspecting player. Both Brock and Nurse are injured. My issue is not so much that Reaves may get more games than Jeannot due to his record - my issue is that Jeannot's hit should have been worse at least five games.

I think you could probably argue either way, but I think the hit on Boeser is a guy who has been told his whole life that he needs to get a lick in on the guy if he wants to play trying to get a lick in on a guy when the situation presented itself, in a scenario where he absolutely needs to override that instinct and hold up because you're almost guaranteed to get the guy in the head when you're approaching from those angles. Terrible hit, and I think it deserved a longer suspension because we absolutely need to figure out how to get players to hold up in that situation.

The hit on Nurse was a much more "normal" type of scenario, where he reads that he's going to have an opportunity to take the body on the forecheck on Nurse from like half the rink away, and has absolutely ample time to make sure that he's going to the body, and instead just cranked the dude exclusively in the head at full flight from like the top of the circles on down. IMO, that's worse as he had all the time in the world to line things up to go to the body and just specifically chose not to.

Probably just as bad as the Jeannot hit but he has history so they can throw the book at him.
Yeah Jeannot should get 10 games too but his “excuse” is there is no prior history.

Reaves having a hearing, no surprise ther, but I didn't see if it's phone or in person.

Either way, this kind of crap should not happen. I'd be shocked if Nurse didn't end up with a f***ing concussion or broken jaw.

But of course, this is Hairy Buttman we are talking about. Player safety is less than a suggestion.

Toronto’s Ryan Reaves has been suspended for five games for an illegal check to the head against Edmonton’s Darnell Nurse.

Get that shit out of here, we are not Oilers fans here.
Can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not.... But I for one think that chart is funny, interesting and very appropriate for the around the league thread, and that means your comment probably went over my head?

Thanks for the update, saw that just now.

I...guess that's something. Still think he should get more.

Any updates on Nurse? I hope it's nothing serious because good lord that hit looked painful.
