I know it goes without saying but Calgary needs to rebuild. They're not going anywhere with Kadri and Huberdeau contracts uinless they get really lucky with the way their prospects develop. So Conroy using Jim Benning phrases when describing his "rebuild" would worry me if I was a flames fan. But he did get a 1st and good prospect for Lindholm which is something Benning could never do for one our pending UFAs.

Conroy has already announced that they are going to 'rebuild on the fly'...Apparently, the owner doesnt think that their fanbase would tolerate a full on rebuild..I'm seeing the 2013-17 Canucks situation unfolding here..It can only mean pain.

They are getting a new building as well in a few years, and I dont think the management/owners want a shit team in it.

The Leafs are such a weird team, playing like shit when full team, playing like SC contender when the core - X. A textbook case of one monk carries two buckets of water. Two monks share the burden. but with three monks, no monk has any water to drink.

That ducks defense is really really bad. Forwards also don't seem interested in playing any defense.

Might be a long rebuild before the ducks are contending for the playoffs.

@MS @bossram Patrick Kane looks f***ing amazing after the surgery, not surprised but he’s really exceeded my expectations

Aaah. How does one come across this insider information? /s

Hey! It was a really good and insightful post comparing the different hip surgeries and options available then pointing out that Kane’s estimated recovery time matched one of those options and not the same one that Kesler and others had.

Must have been like when they patch a road instead of re paving

I’m surprised.

Everyone else who has had that surgery has been finished.
There are varying degrees of these surgeries.

One thing also is his size. Smaller, lighter so more agile to avoid big hits, the bones are the same strength but he doesn't have the same muscle mass driving the joint.

He probably does have some issues but can play a sheltered game.

I think Jovanovski had the most success after surgery, he managed 39 games or so.

It's the same retool on the fly team building. They've got a 30 year old core locked up and pretty much nothing under 25. Conroy was brought in to continue the same plan.

The Kadri mistake is going to cost them for years.

TDL.

Difficult to judge because team "chemistry" is fragile.
This isn't a room with years of success or even the same 10 players over the last 4 years. So "chemistry" is still developing.

The TDL is hard for the Canucks because they HAVE to consider the "break the glass" plan if Pettersson isn't going to re-sign a long term contract.
Everyday after the TDL without a contract diminishes the Canucks leverage with other teams.

Anyone can look at the cap structure, future contracts and cap hits. Anyone that does will see a striking resemblance to the covid shortened season.

Canucks were first in the division. Traded at the DL for Toffolli, this year traded for Lindholm earlier but still had big contracts to re-sign.

Rutherford and Allvin will do all they can within limits to enhance this group but too many changes could upset the room too much. Pettersson's situation really twist their arms behind their backs.

They will do what they can but this group will not be the same next year.
Too many contracts to redo and not enough cap space to keep the group intact.

If they can keep most of the defence together then they could stay relevant but the cap and lack of high level prospects will alter expectations for the next couple of years.

I see a lot of similarities with Colorado's second retooling when they traded Duchene, O'Rielly and others but ended up a power house.

Great they are winning and they could be tweaked even more, maybe another couple of larger forwards another large dman. BTW this Tocchet insistence of RHD/LHD is a smoke screen. Most teams do not have equal amounts of L and R's.

Cup champs,
Vegas, have 8 LHD and 3 RHD
Colorado have 7 LHD and 2 RHD
Tampa had 6 LHD and 4 RHD

Rarely is there the same number on each side after all 7 divided by two in not an equal number

Whatever hopefully all these trade Myers, trade Zarodov, sign Cole to long term, sign Hronek to long term, sign Juulsen as a top pairing dman, get rid of ??? re just entertainment to keep the team in the headlines. The longer at the top the more game paraphaneilia is sold.

That is so much BS and how some US cities think. No win, don't go. Competition for the fan's dollar. None in Canada though.

Canadian fans know the draft is where the star players come from, they know drafting after 10 is not getting a super star player very often, they know enough about hockey as a large number have played or participated or watched (how to learn, watch and learn).

Except they don't know this and ticket sales/merchandise sales/franchise value all usually tank during a tank.
