While I don’t want to see them win a Cup, they are the only Toronto team that I don’t despise, and I find it weird how fixated Vancouverites are on them.

And if it’s the media thing, well, they’re hypocrites for feeding the beast in all the other sports. Those things spill over and it kills local/regional coverage.

I grew up as a Blue Jays fan.

I don't despise the Leafs (they are in the same camp as Calgary and Edmonton because of their fans) and I no longer despise the Raptors.

Fresh off doing his best to pave the way for Stan Bowman to get back into the NHL in the summer, idiot face is doing the same for Jonathan Toews right now.

Reminder that he, like almost everyone else associated with the Blackhawks at that time, sucks and shouldn't be remembered for anything other than this terrible leadership when actual leadership was needed.

100% on the nose ….. at least the Hawks were punished and not allowed to draft another first overall pick …..

But he has since gone on a healing journey. Has detoxed all of that away. Guess he is no longer serious but a joke.

Everyone associated with that Blackhawks team is scum. Toews is particularly culpable being the captain, knowing about it, and actively encouraging the bullying.

I was very very very wrong about the Aliaksei Protas extension.

One of those cases where the guy had one good year and probably overpaid, but the player looked to be on the cusp of breaking out. Now that contract looks amazing. Plus being 6 foot 6 and 220+ pounds there isn’t going to be a Hoglander situation of the coach not playing him if the scoring dries up because the shooting percentage goes down. He’s not going to score near ppg at even strength forever, but a 40-50 points at ES for 3m is still top tier value.

heck
Ovie is 39 years old. What the f***.

Alex Ovechkin not only has 19 goals in 23 games this season, but is producing at a higher goals per game than he did during the prime of his career. . .

Ovi's aging curve is generational.

I remember in 2013 or so the debate about whether it was remotely possible for OV to challenge Gretzky's record and the resounding answer was no way, he'd have to continue being one of the best goal scorers in the league for his entire 30s and that was impossible, everyone knows goal scorers fall off in their 20s and earlier than every other archetype.

this is true. crosby also not bad.

i bet gretzky wishes he played a couple more seasons now. not that he was wracking up goals at the end.

i have always seen toews as the pointdexter straight shooter caught up with a bad crowd that lulled him into complicity, but this yoga thing makes me think he's more like keith than i gave credit for. it is so kelowna narcissist meathead to not only do that but publicize it and you have to know there is a woman involved who likes to wear buckskin and claims to have some kind of online social media health/beauty/fitness career that is either mlm or does not exist.

Caps retool has been master class

Moved on from - Kuznetsov Backstrom Oshie Sheary Orlov Jensen Kuemper

Brought in - Strome Dubois Mangiapane Chychrun Roy Sandin Thompson

Drafted and Developed - McMichael Protas Fehervary

In the system - Leonard Miroshnichenko Hutson Cristall Lapierre Iorio Parasak and because other teams were too slow to see what his brother was doing they drafted the other Protas who looks like yet another steal.

I was thinking they were a team to watch but had no idea Protas McMichael Strome could be this good.

I will say that, although not a physically rigorous occupation, I found that after 30-32 I noticed a huge improvement in my own performance at work (Major contractor PM).

It's unfortunate that the maturity growth happens when physically most guys are dropping off majorly. Few abnormalities like Ovy and Sid.

A year or two ago I thought Pittsburgh actually had a chance of re-tooling around Crosby etc. and that Washington was totally dead in the water, and the exact opposite has happened. That team looked totally finished and everything they've touched in the last 12-18 months has turned to gold.

His brother Ilya Protas, also drafted by Washington last year, looks to be on a similar ripper of a development curve too.

Ilya would probably be a 1st rounder in a re-draft.

Aliaksei's breakout is just out of nowhere though. Dude scored 12 goals in 77 AHL games, 13 goals in his first 167 NHL games. Looked like a useful 3rd liner ... and then he's on pace for 35 goals this year.

Huge players are voodoo and sometimes weird shit happens.

Washington has done an excellent job the last couple years acquiring assets and using them, and not gunking up their cap space which they used well this offseason. Pittsburgh did the opposite. Squandering good assets in Marino and Matheson, trading a first for Karlsson that ended up being pretty high.

Washington has had a lot go right like us last year, but they put themselves in that position. They got the assets and the cap space to really improve their blueline and goaltending, and the risky move for Dubois paid off.

Another embarrassing loss by the Rangers, who are being forced to ride 38-year old Jonathan Quick in goal. Turn out the lights, the party's over.

I'm wondering if the Rangers are close to writing off the season, and won't worry about trading anybody?

Drury wrote off the season a month ago. Which may not be smart for him, but is wise for the Rangers.
