Well, I'll admit one thing - Bouchard is the real deal. What a baller game for him. McDavid did everything he could to blow this but then gets the GWG to make up for it I guess. Dallas was terrible tonight. I think Dallas will come out much harder next game. Oilers looked tired, but Bouchard and Ekholm are the best d-man duo in the league without a doubt and carried the Oilers hard.

Classic game 1 Stars, they'll bounce back. For whatever reason these guys always suck game 1, makes no sense.

Definitely looked beatable in that game though, thought their forwards were blowing the zone way too quick. Dallas' d is great at transitioning the puck up the ice, but the forwards were really poor at providing a secondary outlet beyond the stretch pass.

On the contrary, Edmonton's forwards did a great job at supporting the play all the way up the ice and then pressuring the puck on the forecheck. Dallas got outworked, and their talent & depth couldn't make up the gap.

Yeah, I was never impressed with his defensive game - and he still has some adventurous shifts and disastrous plays in his own end - but man, it doesn’t even matter when he keeps coming through in the clutch on offense for them. So many big goals from him in this playoff. Definitely a lot stronger than I gave him credit for previously.

How about at least a little bit of doubt?

Honestly, I'm having a hard time hating the Oilers. I have no particular desire to see Dallas hoist the Cup and I'd be happy to see the it come back to Canada. If we're going to get beat I'd rather it be by the team that proves to have been the best. So preference ranking:
1. Oilers
2. Panthers
4. NYR/Dallas

Oilers have been pretty lucky with injuries so far. No injuries to any impact players. Whatever they did with Drai's back after GM1 is miraculous. Hintz is a huge loss for Dallas.

Won't count out the Stars yet though. Lost the first 2 games at home against the reigning champs but still came back to beat them. Also, lost the first game to the Avs.

As an nfl fan I felt the Purdy talk both pro and con, if you were a pro person then you have to then say he’s getting over $40 mill per on the next contract.
Same with any player like Petey here. We knew it was going to be an 8 figure AAV.

So Bouchard can extend this summer as he has 1 year left. Edm going to pay him more than Nurse?

Brown’s bonus got pushed to next season to account for this Edm wouldn’t have the extra $3 mill or whatever a longer term deal would have looked like.

Finally got a GM role. Seemed like he never wanted to leave Carolina, so just bided his time and the team finally pushed Waddell out, ala LV/NYR with McPhee/Sather to keep McCrimmon/Gorton.

It sounds like Waddell has the Columbus job, to which I say, :biglaugh:

Waddell seems to found a role as a President acting as a GM. A guy that just uses his connections and business acumen to get everyone going in the same direction but not actually a decision maker. Odd fit in Columbus if they are actually going to let him make hockey decision. He's been bad at those for a long time.

JD is their President, so they need a real GM. CBS is the only team without one.
