Around The League Thread - 2026 Offseason

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Washington is definitely acting serious about re-energizing its window. They're barely coming out of the Ovechkin/Backstrom years and are winning again, must be nice.
Winning ? They missed the playoffs 2 out of the last 4 years and have made it out of the first round once

Yeah, WSH and NJD are pretty similar results wise. But looking at a micro level, they have had more regular season success lately, and have just added 2 impact players. I guess we'll see.

They also have goaltending, which we don't.

Don't know what to think of Washington. They're doing the sort of things we all wanted around 2009-14, but I still don't think it's enough.

Goaltending is volatile.

WSH could legitimately have a 50 goal drop off from goaltending alone if Logan thompson has a mediocre year

There is nowhere for WSHs goaltending to go but down.

I'm guessing he wants a mint to stay in Carolina long term.
I think carolina realizes he's just not that good and is also not gonna develop much more because he's like 25.

He rode the "best player outside of the NHL" thing which is cool when you're 18, not so much when you're 23 and getting outplayed by tony deangelo

If any GMs are as dumb as fans thinking that he's got a bunch more development in him just because he was a rookie, they'll make out well

I bet Knies goes to BUF for 4OA+.

It feels like we're going to finish 2nd a bunch again ...

Hard to compete with BUF's 4OA, some of SJ's assets, STL has four 1st rounders this year, and MIN feels like they have the leg up on Quinn.

Plus the Robertson price tag is huge, and just feels to me like there's a deal to be made between DAL/DET around Robertson/Larkin if somehow Robertson agrees to a huge number in DET.

i know, take the source with a grain of salt. but god dammit that would have been hilarious.

They're just building on the Canes model, trying to have as good a player as possible at every position, and then hoping that's enough - no superstars but just a team full of 2nd liners and 2nd pairing D. I doubt it is too but where they're at, there's nothing to tear down anymore - Ovechkin's 41, Carlson left, I think those are the only guys who won a Cup with the team still there.
