To be honest, I'll find it to be very disapointing if the Leafs lose to the Habs. I mean there's absolutely no reason why they should lose to the Habs. It will be a true collapse

This should fill you with confidence.

Alright, I'll bite - how?

We gave up a guy who is easily replaceable in UFA and internally for cheap. He was a 3rd line AHLer when he was here, and away from Barkov, that is all he was in the NHL too. Even with Barkov, he didn't do much after his first 10 games.

Malgin, if nothing else, has had the same amount of success as Marchment, except he was 20-23 and not 26. His upside may only be a mediocre middle 6 scorer, but even those are not super cheap in UFA.

I just look at it this way: Historically, teams would not really line up to sign guys like Marchment after the season he has had. If Pius Suter is any indication, teams would be lining up to sign Malgin based on the season he just had if he was a European UFA right now.

We definitely did not do them a favour. At best it is not as much as lopsided as it was on the first day, but is still a deal the Leafs should be making every day of the week.

Vegas has had playoff scoring issues since game 5 vs Vancouver last year

vs Van: 2 goals (on a goalie) in the final 3 games

vs Dal: 8 goals in 5 games

vs Min: 2 goals after 5 periods

Only a 10-game sample size, but it has to be a bit concerning. They definitely miss Pacioretty in this series

Minny has played Vegas really well over the past couple of seasons. This was their ideal matchup.

I’m liking Minnesota a lot this year especially with Kaprizov breaking in but I think we need Vegas to get to the second round to beat up on Colorado a bit.

Oh my lord the stupidest penalty I have ever seen.
I thought that he tried to push it forward with open glove, but motion was from down up and he then realized that that motion would put puck over the glass if he continues and then he panicked and closed his glove. Should have just punched it forward or let it fall.

The playoff series have all been fun to watch, but they should also kill off the notion that the North Division was somehow uniquely worse.

There's been a lot of sloppy play.

Uniquely worse, well now there's a term I haven't heard before when discussing the North, points for creativity. :)

My (unscientific) analysis shows that the East is the toughest division but after that, the rest are pretty close together so if the North is weak, so is the West and Central (it's basically a non-issue). What's unique about our division is the lack of quality at the top end. We're very good (obviously) but the #2 team in the North is a notch below the #2 teams in all the other divisions and the number #3 team is more than just a notch below the #3 teams in the other divisions. What this means is that we are the only team in the league (and I believe the only team in NHL history) that is guaranteed to not have to face a top 10 team for the first two rounds. That is pretty sweet. :)

The good:
The easiest projected path to the semi finals, duh.

The bad (possibly?):
We haven't had to play a top 10 team all season so maybe we're not "battle tested" and when the going gets tough, we'll have a hard time adjusting. I don't think this is an issue actually but it's the only possibility I could come up with, I couldn't just leave "the bad" blank now could I? But yeah, I think we have too many battle tested vets on the team now for this to be an issue.

Next year we'll be back in the toughest division in hockey again so let's hope we make the most of this opportunity!

Imagine reading the following comment in 2015:

"Alex Galchenyuk has potential to be a Carter Verhaeghe type breakout for us next season."

I do think both players have quite similar play styles though.

Yep this year was a gift, they better not blow it.

Man have the Canucks gone from the next Cup-Canadian team to a disaster in less than a year.

If they let Ian Clarke go I hope to hell Dubas' backs up the bank truck to bring him to Toronto. Getting a high end goalie coach in this org would be massive with this core.

Noting that they are "hoping" these are false positives, they might actually be positives.

what happens if a few Leafs players only, or Montreal players only get covid ...are they forced to play short handed, or do they 'delay' the series.
i.e. Price, Gally get covid from AHL and Price gives it to Allen at practice. do they play without those 3, or does league bail them out and delay
or Leafs, Marner, Matthews and Nylander hang out together one night and get covid ...same, play and sucks to be your team, or league bailout.

If St. Louis, or the other team in this situation, have players actually positive, we'll find out tonight.
