Uniquely worse, well now there's a term I haven't heard before when discussing the North, points for creativity.
My (unscientific) analysis shows that the East is the toughest division but after that, the rest are pretty close together so if the North is weak, so is the West and Central (it's basically a non-issue). What's unique about our division is the lack of quality at the top end. We're very good (obviously) but the #2 team in the North is a notch below the #2 teams in all the other divisions and the number #3 team is more than just a notch below the #3 teams in the other divisions. What this means is that we are the only team in the league (and I believe the only team in NHL history) that is guaranteed to not have to face a top 10 team for the first two rounds. That is pretty sweet.
The good:
The easiest projected path to the semi finals, duh.
The bad (possibly?):
We haven't had to play a top 10 team all season so maybe we're not "battle tested" and when the going gets tough, we'll have a hard time adjusting. I don't think this is an issue actually but it's the only possibility I could come up with, I couldn't just leave "the bad" blank now could I? But yeah, I think we have too many battle tested vets on the team now for this to be an issue.
Next year we'll be back in the toughest division in hockey again so let's hope we make the most of this opportunity!
