What a **** show.

Have to think the DA's press conference tomorrow is just to say they're not pursuing the case...but the way this has all gone, there will be another twist tonight before his twist tomorrow, heh.

This definitely puts a dent into the credibility of the accuser. This is why I laugh at the people who wanted the book thrown at Kane. Guess Doughty should've also been suspended in 2012...

You can laugh all you want. I never commented on Kane's guilt or innocence, only his NHL status, and I at least backed that up with plenty of reasoning.

If Doughty's investigation was this public and messy and happened on the heels of other suspensions for investigation of behavior, then I would have supported a suspension for him as well, just as I did for Voynov--but if it happened under current circumstances, yes, I would cry foul, since the NHL is selectively applying what makes them 'look bad'.

I doubt that will happen. At least yet. He'll still likely go to the grand jury.
He said that accused victim wasn't involved. And the bag is real. It's just about the details of how the bag got to the house and then to him. And someone thought it would help her to create this tale.

Random question re Colin Miller, where was he ranked on the Kings depth chart before his trade? He looked pretty good tonight for Boston, and really knows how to get the shot off quick.

He looked to be at least a year away from the NHL if ever due to defensive play/decision making, but he was pretty buried on it, probably 3-4 players ahead of him depending on how you rank them. No one is really questioning his offensive ability though, he certainly has that, but probably redundant with Jamie McBain, as well.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

I have a conspiracy teory. Kane will be suspended till the playoffs. He will not count against the cap, allowing the Blackhawks to bring in some star. Then he will be reinstated for the playoffs for another Stanley cup ending with countless threads of Jonathan "Jesus" Toews and diansty talk on the main board.

DA Frank Sedita says rape kits in Erie County are "not placed in bags," and the "rape kit in question was not placed in a bag."

DA stating what most legal analysts inferred over the last 2 days with bizarre events, no change in case status

Tim Graham ‏@ByTimGraham 7m7 minutes ago

Sedita reiterates this remains an active case.

Assuming it's true that the rape kit came up negative from the waist down, given the developments over the last couple of days, it's pretty clear at this point that they'll never get a conviction.

The lawyer quitting is a huge red flag.

He never should have held that press conference. He obviously didn't know what he was talking about.

At this point, that's a huge assumption, no viable source that didn't have a vested interest in one side or the other has commented.

It's up to a grand jury to decide the DNA evidence and lack of DNA only means he could have either used protection or he didn't get very far. But that's up the Grand Jury

The DA is the prosecutor, the attorney quitting was not affiliated with the rape case. He came on board only for the ripped bag at the mother's house. And as of this morning, the DA stated it's still an active case.

DA Sedita said no defined timetable for the investigation. Depends on evidence, poss. need for more testing, cooperation of witnesses.

Tidbits from around the league:

Hearing the Byfuglien's asking price (LTC at 7M Per) is the reason the Jets haven't signed him yet. And with Seidenberg out and Chara aging quickly (and left last night's game with 'upper body injury) , NESN and other hockey outlets are saying the Bruins are interested in trading for him. Jets still haven't signed Capt. Ladd yet, which might be a factor. Ladd thought to be in the 6 yrs./6.5 per range.

The Rangers' Oscar Lindberg, a very talented center , is drawing a lot of interest around the NHL, since if they (depth issues) decide to send him back to the AHL, he won't clear waviers.

Rumor that the Leafs Lamoriello is interested in Travis Zajac, although he's 30 and I can't see him being a part of a team on the rebuild. And why would you give up good prospects (which is what NJ would want). Don't see this rumor having legs.

and this is an NHL injury list by team, that black cloud of bad luck is still hovering over the Blue Jackets, 6 players in the list

Teddy Purcell, (day to day ) prior to injury was skating on the first line with Hall and McDavid.

Since the last title was "The dog days of summer" , can we name this one "The Cat days of fall"?

Veterans should only be signed, not traded for, during a rebuild.

Yeah, that one made no sense, other than Papa Lou's ties to NJ. Although 30 isn't old, depending on the role, for a bottom 6 player in the Leafs rebuild, it's not ideal for top 6, not with the Leafs a few years out.
The Leafs have some nice , top end prospects developing and they should stay right where they are.

DA: "The question in my mind is not when this case will go to a grand jury, it's if this will go to a grand jury."

Look at what's happening, apply a little common sense, and it's pretty clear a conviction is now highly unlikely.

I never commented on the probability of a conviction, just that things are being assumed based on hearsay of biased parties.

Until the DA says that's what the test results revealed, their isn't much I am believing either way.

Pretty clear to you, but you're not on the Grand Jury. Sedita said the case is still open. Until the DA makes a decision, nothing has changed .

You're misreading what I said. I'm discussing a conviction. That has nothing to do with what what the grand jury does or doesn't do.

If it goes to the grand jury and he is indicted you never know exactly what a jury will do. It's an alleged rape convictions are almost always hard to come by.

DA confirms that the DNA test results were given to Kane's attorney. So Kane's attorney had a basis for claiming he knew what the results were.

"Sedita confirmed that initial results from DNA tests were delivered to counsel for both sides.

Citing a historical precedent, "Brady vs. Maryland," Sedita said he had an obligation to notify both Kane's attorney and the accuser's attorney of results of the DNA tests from the evidence in the rape kit. Sedita said the "ethical obligation" exists if the results of the test "may exonerate" or be favorable for the accused, or in this case, Kane.

Sedita would not answer further questions about the results of the testing, citing New York State law. He also chided the sources of leaks to the media about details relating to the evidence."

What has Byfuglien done to earn this kind of payday at 30 years of age? Any team that signs him for more than 4 years will be sorry. Players think that simply because their contract is up that it's time for a ripoff.
