If Leafs re-sign Marner and run it back again, they'll be done again in the playoffs. I'm convinced that other teams have figured the Leafs out, and not because the Leafs need to figure it out. There's a reason why their PP (1 for 21 against Boston) and goal scoring has been so atrocious in the playoffs.

On the PP, they really lack shooting weapons...teams just let Marner float around the perimeter while they cover Matthews and Nylander...box Tavares out from the front and don't let him get to any rebounds...let Rielly and Marner shoot the puck all day long because nobody cares about their weak shots. Play the percentages and teams pretty much limit Leafs to 2 goals and under.

5 on 5, only Matthews and Nylander are the main scoring threats, so keep their chances to a minimum...Tavares is too slow, so keep him on the outside, and Marner simply plays the ring-around-the-rosy perimeter game trying to make that Gretzky-like pass even when he has no time. With Rielly, let him beat himself playing defense.
