Because the Rangers are well-coached and play to their strengths, while the Leafs are poorly coached and play when they feel like it.

Matthews was only really better in 2016-2017 & 2021-2022 which he peaked and got the hart + lindsay
2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024 Mack was the better player by quite a bit

Laviolette is another guy who would've been a good hire. At the very least he probably could get more offense from the team in playoffs

Honestly, this comparison is not even relevant for me. The bigger issue is try comparing Makar to the best Leafs defenseman and see how many >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> are required. This guy is so far beyond anything the Leafs have.
