Wouldn't he be the absolute perfect fit on that line now? Or with Nylander? A guy that's literally scored 95 percent of his goals in the greasy areas, imagine him feasting on rebounds. He wouldn't play 11 minutes here? He'd be playing top 6, PK and PP no? People said he was "stone hands" when Babcock first tried him high in the lineup but he was proving those detractors wrong as we went. He was sure better than Bunting in that role.

Kind of a bs retort Bert, given it's topically in this thread the last few days.

Just making a joke bud

The Hyman discussions are always a bit odd because the guys have an absolutely unicorn of a career arch.

I'm sure most Leafs fans if they had a time.machine, myself included would have preferred to have extended him in retrospect.

At the same time, team walked away from a guy looking for a 7-8 year extension at an older age, who had a documented injury history and quite frankly hadn't distinguished himself during any of his 5 playoff performances with the Leafs

So a wrong decision in retrospect, but was still arguably the right call given what was known at the time. Likely a scenario that won't reappear too often thankfully....

We had so many examples of it not working. Hyman had back to back major knee injuries. And no success in multiple playoffs.

I was totally on board with letting him go. Ladd lucic clarkson 2.0

Man I was wrong. Hard to rag on dubas for this one when I wanted nothing to do with it

There's some revisionist history with Hyman here. First few years with the Leafs the guy may as well have used a log for a stick his puck handling skills were so bad. He's the most improved player in the NHL by a wide margin ainec.

I didn't mind paying Hyman, but the term on a player like him was the deterrent, especially given his injuries the previous two playoffs + the hard miles. Good for Zach, nobody saw him doing this, including the Oilers. I can't sit here and say we should've re-signed him at all costs, 4 year term was my cut-off.

There might be something to be said for our skills development guys dropping the ball considering Hyman finally learned to lift the puck in tight at 30. You can go through every single one of his goals with us and confirm that 90% of them the puck stayed on the ice, the other 10% were breakaways where he had time and space to shoot from distance. A few years with Edmonton and all of a sudden he’s prime JVR in front of the net roofing pucks a foot away from the goalie.

Kutch with 5 points and Point with the hat trick and 3 helpers. They may not be an easy out in round 1 if Vasi plays well.

Watching Kuch, Mack, Mcdavid and Pasta this year is just incredible. Clear cut 4 best players in the NHL this year

We aren't getting that level of value and productiom from Marner and Matthews. Marner goal scoring holds him back, and Matthews play making

Kuz has looked great so far. Some people thought that was a bad gamble by the Canes, but imo, it's a low-risk, very high-reward. Dude is well aware this is his last chance in the NHL, and it's not like he lost all that talent overnight.
Imagine adding Guentzel and Kuz at the TDL. Canes look deep everywhere except in goal.

Loving it. Glad it's not just McDavid having an insane year.

Get your money back from the eye surgery
Gotta face reality KB

Mcdavid is the greatest player of this era

Mackinnon and kucherov are having 140 pt years which clears anything matthews has ever done

Pasta is the closest to Matthews. Hes outproducing him on a worse offensive setup.

Matthews is at best 4th this year. Likely lower

Caps with a -31 goal differential are 1 point out of WC2.

Detroit has lost 7 straight and can't beat the Coyotes at home, instead choosing to beat each other up during practice.

Flyers will 100% be caught by the Isles.

WC2 battle will be between Flyers and Wings with Wings getting the last spot.

This is such a joke chase for the 3rd Metro spot and WC2. 😂🤡🤡
