Bieksa is good and Botterill is fine. MacLean needs to retire I think and I don't care for Hrudey. It's hard to think of anyone they've currently got who's got the charisma to round out the panel. Think Amber would be fine as the main host but they need that one extra person besides Bieksa. Had it with Burke but I'm not sure how interested he'd be in coming back.

It really is stark the difference between TSN and Sportsnet. The TSN analysts and hosts all have a natural charisma about them and seem to be truly enjoying themselves. Sportsnet too often feels stiff and way too corporate.
Even Amber seems like fake enthusiasm.. him and botterill are like they are they taking their broadcasting final exam everytime

So wonder where they'll out source it to?

Like Bieksa knowledgeable and willing to tell it.
Kypreos would be okay doesn't take it seriously and it is a game.
Hrudey could do without, he tries but find his comments usually have an angle.
Ron's time is up.

Don't watch hockey for the between period entertainers anyway.

I'm sure the new group will follow the trends.

Honestly, the TNT crew in between intermissions is actually entertaining and knowledgeable. I am also assuming they are told to emulate what the NBA has done on TNT hence it feels good.

Hopefully Sportsnet does something of that and makes it fun.

CBC will go with people who will follow the marching orders of a publicly funded organization who has been getting a lot of #DefundCBC trends on twitter.

It will be the most bland cold and soft news takes in history. I expect they'll still sort of be hockey people but they won't be stars or anything. Even if they have a good hot take will be told to tone it down because it can't be controversial.

They don't want to get accused of any Toronto bias so they will all be from outside Ontario. And if they played in the NHL won't have ever played for the Leafs.

"been hockey people"

Hopefully, that holds and they don't go for "Dangle" entertainment.

Unless some think that's a "hockey people."
I doubt it would be Dangle. They will continue to go with people who understand the game.

Tanner Jeannot signs new deal worth over $5 million.

After giving up a ton of draft picks for him ahead of the deadline, the Lightning have re-signed Tanner Jeannot to a new deal.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have secured the services of their young enforcer for the foreseeable future.

According to an official announcement from the Lightning, the organization has signed forward Tanner Jeannot to a new 2 year deal worth $5.33 million over the full term of the contract. That will work out to an average annual value and salary cap hit of $2.665 million per season.

There was never any question that this deal would get done considering the Lightning gave up a ton of assets to acquire Jeannot ahead of the National Hockey League's March trade deadline. The Lightning gave up defenseman Cal Foote, a conditional first round pick at the 2025 draft, a second round pick in the 2024 draft, and a third, fourth and fifth round pick at the recent 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

That’s a reasonable deal for Jeannot, especially if he bounces back. It’s also all they had left in cap space, at least without making a move. We’ll see what kind of production he can do in a more normal year.

12g/12a….

Thanks.

Tanner Jeannot was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning by the Nashville Predators on Sunday.

Was TDD April 1st.?

The cost TB gave up at the traded deadline was almost as bad as the Leafs sacrificed for renting Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari for 11 playoff games, except they still have the player now re-signed,

Maple Leafs acquire Ryan O'Reilly, Noel Acciari from Blues in three-team trade

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari from the St. Louis Blues in a three-team trade that also includes the Minnesota Wild.

In exchange for O'Reilly and Acciari, the Blues received forwards Mikhail Abramov and Adam Gaudette, a 2023 first-round pick, a 2023 third-round pick and a 2024 second-round pick.

With the Maple Leafs up against the salary cap, the Blues retained 50% of O'Reilly's $7.5 million cap hit, and the Wild retained 50% of the remaining $3,750,000 before sending him to the Maple Leafs.

For its part in absorbing a portion of O'Reilly's salary, Minnesota received Toronto's fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Yes, Lightning and Leafs really stretched on these guys.

Lightning lost to Leafs in the first round, but they get to keep a player who may be a 20 goal scorer, or might be a 10 goal scorer.

Who'd he play with in Nashville that got him the puck?

Kypreos, Bieksa and Oneill going at it would be interesting.

I really think we’re jumping the gun here on a Berger hypothesis, I’m not going to sleep tonight any more thinking that Ron might be done as lead on HNIC then I was last night, which is zero.

Ron is a comfortable old sweater on winter nights watching hockey. I get a younger crowd not in to it, for sure, but again, they did it once, and the viewing public spoke. The internet message board demographic is not the same as the HNIC demographic. He gets the Bob Cole exit, when he is ready, gracefully, long after he is clearly no longer the best in the biz at what particularly he does, which he still is. Amber is fine, but replacing Ron on HNIC? I don’t think so.
Amber is far more enjoyable to listen too and Ronnie should have left when Don was canned.

It really blows for Kase that concussion issues have seemingly ended what could've been a good NHL career.

The guy clearly loves hockey to keep playing after going through so much. I just hope it doesn't hurt him long-term. Considering he only played 3 games in 2020-2021 and 1 game in 2022-2023, we're pretty lucky that we had him for 50 regular season + all 7 playoff games in 2021-2022.

This is the thing, what is Toronto or Leafs bias? Like when did that ever happened on HNIC? Maybe when Cherry was still doing his bit in the first period.

Also, who accused HNIC for Toronto or Leafs bias? if anything, they have been pissing off Leafsnation as they are always against the Leafs, thus creating buzz.

Hockey fans in general just want a good show. The fact that the prime game on HNIC is usually Leafs means the people during the 1st intermission will talk about the Leafs bc they just televised their first period. IF producers of the show don't understand this simple concept, they should not be making any shows. Hence, thats why their ratings are crap and they still don't seem to understand why that is the case.

Doesn't matter if you have Clark on the panel, or the Sedins on the panel, they are supposed to talk about what happened during the first period, and if the Leafs is playing, they will talk about the Leafs. Just like when people watch HNIC at 7pm EST, they know that it will usually be the Leafs Vs Team X instead of another Canadian Team Vs Team X.
