Although I think the 2nd part is probably more posturing than anything. I don't think people are going to be turned off by his religious stance, but he is 35 and was really bad last year (even accounting for the team). The UFA market does suck for goalies this year, but there are enough passable backups that guys like Jones and Reimer should probably be left on the outside looking in unless they want to be #3's.

Arizona, maybe? He’d fit right in if the team makes the move to Salt Lake…
 
Am I the only one who doesn't think the Meier contract is all that good for Jersey? He may not actually be a great fit for the team - in the small sample size he didn't really seem to gel and he got hit HARD by Trouba in the postseason. The Devils are now in serious contender mode assuming Schmid blossoms into a 1A, but this contract could really look bad in a short period of time

Not faulting them for it, they just move on from people super quickly.

Although I think the reason for clearing the cap may backfire for them.

I hate to say it but I don’t just like that move, I love it. Pittsburgh is going to be in the hunt next year depending on who they have in net.

Smith is 32 years old, can still skate a high level and is a natural goal scorer. He’s a good fit for Crosby and the type of winger Crosby likes playing with.
