Hyman doesn't actually have an even strength point yet.

And the question was never about whether or not Hyman would be good. It was about the risk of that contract.

For some reason people think the Leafs couldn't afford the contract the Oilers gave him. They absolutely could have with a few changes to how they approach the past offseason - it just wouldn't have been a particularly good risk longterm IMO.

It’s amazing that some people go on endlessly about our bad contracts, and sure Matty is paid about .5 mil too much and Marner about $1.5 too much, but then criticize us for not giving Hyman a 7 year, $5.5 mil deal, because of bad cap management. Full respect to Hyman, good hockey play, high hockey IQ, great work ethic and great person… but no chance I give him that contract. Good for him though.

Just curious how you would evaluate Nylanders contract?

Hyman might actually do better with McDavid because McDavid’s speed causes so much chaos for defensive systems that Hymans crash and bang style will allow him to be all over those greasy goals

Though let's face it, it's also hardly if McDavids line needed help generating offense.

Hyman is going to have to work on being healthy and actually competitive in the post season to ultimately make up his value to the Oilers. His Montreal playoff series was very mediocre

Hyman 5v5 has been a train wreck so far. He is killing it however on the PP/ SH and of course with an empty net.

He might score 40 with his PP linemates and if McDavid decides he doesn't want to score 60

Oilers top line has scored more goals than the entire Leaf roster.

Then Hyman has 5 and Kassian has 3.

UGH

I'm absolutely loving Habs' fans in pain watching that trainwreck.

I'm like a kid in a candy store.
Could be worse, like having 3 invisible 11 mil players. Or losing in the 1st round 5 years in a row. Or no playoff wins in 18 years or whatever that ridiculous number is at.

I can't laugh at the Habs, especially after they embarrassed us in the playoffs last year.

Who cares what Edmonton has done in 5 games. Their pp won't go all year at 50%. Hyman won't score at 40% mcdavid won't score at 30%. Just like Matthews won't go all season without scoring.

Hyman has scored more goals than Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander combined.

Hyman fits like a hand in a glove with McDavid and Oilers are off to their best start in decades.

McDavid is singing Hyman's praises as Connor is producing at > 2 PPG and on a Wayne Gretzky pace for point production.

Meanwhile back in Toronto Leafs have scored 3 or less goals in their 1st 5 games which is their lowest offensive output since 2003.

Again the Oilers are feasting on absolutely brutal teams to start the year. Even Vegas looks like a shell of what they have been in years past. Edmonton will stroll into the playoffs with ease though because of how many bad teams there are out west. But maybe wait to crown them until they actually do play a decent team.

Wouldn't that be nice.

Hyman scoring 5 goals already just tells me how much more elite Mcdavid is on his own compared to Matthews and Marner combined

I've been a huge Hyman fan ever since he started with us as you can see by my avatar, which I've used since he started with us. I wasn't sure that his absence would be this huge of a disaster in Leafland but now our first line of Matthews, Marner & Ritchie have 1 point combined in 5 games (2 for Matthews).

I've been a dye hard Leaf fan since 1976 but once Hyman went to the Oilers, I saw this disaster coming (I almost feel like jumping the ship to Edmonton for now). The Leafs are disgusting so far, picking up exactly where they left off in the last 3 games in the playoffs, just can't score anymore (and now they have JT back so that excuse is gone) with their only 2 wins thanks to Campbell. And we've only played against cellar dwellars from last year (Habs? need I say more). Not even able to dominate a team that just played their 3rd game in 4 nights while they had a 3-day rest.

Man Leon Draisaitls career might end with him being a top 25 all time ahead of Malkin

He's a borderline generational player

McDavid is going to end up the GOAT or 2nd best if he gets 3 cups. Hes going to win 20+ regular season awards for his career

I think everyone would have enjoyed the past 2 weeks a little more if they punched down harder on Ottawa, Montreal and San Jose.

Habs, Sens, Sens, Rangers, San Jose

We've had a super soft schedule as well

When will JT/MM/AM start feasting?

I get none of them are comparable to McDavid but they have all been unable to produce in the first month of hockey where defenses aren't strong and they've played 4 out of 5 games against non playoff teams from last year.

Yeah what I said has absolutely nothing to do with us. We have our own issues. That doesn't make the Oilers real because they beat up on some shitty teams.
