They might just be delusional enough to believe they're a contender. Honestly, they're not that far off, just need a consistently good goalie, a 1st line center, and a 2nd pairing defenseman, but it seems they want to settle for another winger.Robertson isn't going to OTT, let's get real.
How did San Jose and Buffalo get stronger?Does anyone else think this a pivotal turning point for a lot of teams with all of the moves being done? San Jose got stronger. Buffalo did as well. Who the hell knows what is going on in New Jersey and don't sleep on St. Louis.
Buffalo moved Byram and Greenway for the 4th overall pick giving them flexibility and possibly draft capital to go after a bigger fish. San Jose did the same thing but they have three draft picks including the second overall. How did San Jose and Buffalo get stronger?
Ok, but until they follow up on those things, they still just moved NHL players for picks.Buffalo moved Byram and Greenway for the 4th overall pick giving them flexibility and possibly draft capital to go after a bigger fish. Flexibility and youth are valuable

I get all that, but just saying that Buffalo is "stronger" without Byram (and Tuch it seems) isn't exactly correct. They still have work to do to stay on course with last year, let alone getting better.Of course they still have to hit on the pick, but turning Byram into 4th overall is a pretty big win in the meantime. If you're looking at the total value within the organization, they definitely come out ahead right now. That's a pick you can find a 1C with.
I would love to be able to find ourselves in a situation like that. Actually, that's what Colorado did with Makar too.

Yeah, possible but not automatic. Byram was a #4 pick, but then again so was Makar.Depends on how you want to look at it. The roster isn't stronger at the moment, but the organization as a whole is.
Well, the Tuch thing changes that, but in the time between the Byram trade and the Tuch thing, the organization as a whole got stronger.
And it's possible that they make up for a lot of that, if not all of it, by the addition/progression of guys like Benson, Power, Ostlund, Kulich, Helenius.
