The cap hit is $0 because the season is over. Rough guess is full season would be ~$7m over for VGK's iced roster.

MN cheated the same way last season then if you're counting full season cap hit. They added $10.65m to their cap around the TDL.

I agree with Dr Jan Itor. The easiest solution is to require teams to ice a cap-compliant team. The roster can be over the cap, but the players for any given game have to be under the cap.

Why does it have to be fair? Life isn't fair, injuries happen, and you make the best out of it.

If MN had had went and got Hertl (also on LTIR), Mantha, and Hanifin at the TDL with Spurgeon and Foligno on LTIR. Then they all made if for G1 in the Playoffs people here would be happy because the lineup would look something like this:

Kap/JEE/Zucc
Mantha/Hertl/Boldy
Foligno/Rossi/Hartman
Duhaime/Dewar/Maroon

Brodin/Faber
Hanifin/Spurgeon
Middleton/Bogo

Because you can easily make it so? Why actively keep a faulty system in place?

I'd still watch the games, but I would also consider it to cheapen any playoff success.

Accruing cap space is an option available for every team. The Stone situation isn't. How is this so hard to understand?

The accrued cap space doesn't carry over to the Playoffs though if you want an on-ice team that is cap compliant. MN's on ice team would have been over the cap when the Playoffs started last year. How do you count the accrued cap to account for the Postseason games which could be anywhere between 4 and 28 games depending on how each series turns out.

Does LTIR count in the Playoffs? Does dead cap count? Will performance bonuses have kicked in and need to be accounted for? How many players count towards the cap total?

I can poke holes or find loopholes in any of these "fair" systems, and I'm not near as smart as an entire NHL front office.

Really what is the point of LTIR at all then? MN should have had to run an 15 man roster this year for a chunk of games because they would have been well over the cap with callups to fill in for injuries. They were running at an ~$87.5m cap hit for a few games this year once the roster size didn't matter. They sent Beckman and Wallstedt back down so they only finished with the 9th highest cap hit this year instead of the 6th highest.

The rules are fine the way they are. One team is going to find a leg up on the rest no matter what the rules are. Then it's more monkey see monkey do and different rules are made to address that.

Why are we paying massive cap penalties for cap evasion, again. Something about a level playing field, except it doesn't matter during playoffs, for some reason.

The whole situation is completely ridiculous.

MN is paying massive penalties due to buyouts. Which was a choice made by the GM of the team. There were no penalties other than those that were self inflicted. The cap is there for the season. The NHL is currently in the Postseason; which literally means after the season.

The cap doesn't matter now because the season is over and all the salary has been paid. The money the players make now is a different pool and the high priced players are making pennies on the dollar compared to their season pay.

MN iced a Playoff team last year that would have been over the cap. There was no outrage on here about that. Instead the GM was lauded for weaponizing the cap space for the team's benefit.

If things had worked out differently this year, MN could have done it again and been right there with VGK, TB, and COL for going over the cap for a Playoff roster. The outrage would then turn the MN fans defending the team having a $90m roster.

Every team plays under the same rules (CBA), so the playing field is equal. Not knowing or using those rules to your advantage isn't any different than KC (knowing) and SF (not knowing) the OT rules in the Super Bowl this season.

There is no debating that not having a salary cap favors teams that have deeper pockets, which bakes in inequality to the playoffs.

Don't get how this is even a debate lol. "Life isn't fair" lol what a terrible point to make when talking about rules in professional sports.

All (or almost all) the teams have deep pockets. The 3 deepest pocket teams TOR, MTL, and NYR haven't had a single Cup in the last ~30. This isn't baseball where 1 player is getting paid more other teams entire payroll for a season.

If you're going with accrued cap way then Hertl ($1.47m over half of that he was on LTIR), Hanifin ($270k), and Mantha ($668k) are the cap hits to figure for VGK's Playoff roster.
For full season cap hits VGK could put an ~$87.3m 20 man roster on the ice. (Hertl+Hanfin+Mantha = ~$10.8m full cap hits). That same roster for what VGK was charged for in cap would be a ~$79m cap hit. I got these numbers from cap friendly.
 
VAN wins 2-1 with a total of 12 shots in the game. Half of those shots (6) were from Miller.

That's the part that is pretty pathetic. I look forward to the same #@$! from him next year.
 
I turned it off when the Nucks were down by two late. :banghead:

Doesn't make up for the Jets and Knights losses this weekend, but it helps.
 
Wow. Perhaps the Kings should have pulled Talbot one game earlier. Big difference with him out.

I know the Oilers only had 13 shots, but Talbot was Swiss cheese all series.

Kings just can't score.....a single goal in their two home games.
