So the doctors would have magically agreed they were healthy enough to play, only if the season was on the line.
We don't know WHEN the doctors told him he was in no danger of further injury. You're assuming it happened when it was said he would play. I'm saying, he could've been told that a while ago, but rehab isn't as simple as that.

Agree to disagree then. It's just blatant cap circumvention.

If the season was on the line? I'm sure they would've tried to play if they could. They had no reason to and I have no problem with them choosing not to.

It's not rehab that's the problem. He WAS likely medically cleared a while ago, but Vegas didn't have the cap to reactivate him because of the acquisitions they made at the deadline. Now he's able to rejoin the team in full, along with all of the deadline acquisitions. Now Vegas is icing a team that's 7.5M over the cap that everyone else who didn't have long term injuries still had to abide by.

As I said, the only other alternative is that he isn't ready to go but Vegas is coercing their medical staff to clear him anyway, which is a much worse problem.

Cap circumvention or medical malpractice, pick your poison.

Question. When Andrew Brunette tore his ACL a week before the playoffs and required surgery... do you think he was traditionally cleared to play a week later vs the Avs, or did he make a personal health decision knowing the risks?

That has nothing to do with cap circumvention and LTIR

Well that begs a really good question. If you're put in LTIR, my assumption is that a doctor has ruled you physically unable to play.
Wouldn't coming off LTIR just be the opposite? A doctor stating that you are physically able to play?

In the case of Brunette, was he placed on IR? Then, did a doctor rule him able to play to come off IR?

It has to do with @AKL Positing medical malpractice

I'm not "positing" medical malpractice. I'm saying it's either medical malpractice or cap circumvention, and it's NOT medical malpractice, because that would be a much bigger issue.

LTIR just means you're missing 7 games or more for a legit injury.
A player can be cleared for contact, but not ready to play. There is an expected period allowed for conditioning etc.

It's not medical malpractice, because the player is allowed to make a personal health decision knowing the risks.
Ian Cole was advised by doctors to never play again... yet he chose to play after his neck injury. It happens that players make such decisions.

We agree that it's not medical malpractice.

Which means it's cap circumvention.

I disagree, because it's the players choice to come back early against medical advice

That would be relevant if we thought it was medical malpractice, which we don't.

I think we can all agree it’s just a big coincidoink the Stone’s rehabilitation lined up perfectly for him to be ready for game 1 of the playoffs while simultaneously allowing Vegas to fit under the cap.

I say we LTIR Spurgeon until the playoffs and use his 7.5M elsewhere next year

I feel like throwing up admiting I'm cheering for Toronto in round 1. But, man, I'd love to see a 1st round exit from Tampa. Probably not going to happen though.

Nope! Gotta keep the streak alive.

I don't dislike the Leafs as a team, but man their fans are...ridiculous. I'm convinced that fanbase is made up entirely of overly confident 15 year old hockey players that think they're the shit. Never seen a group of people so certain that they're going to win the cup before the season even starts and then melt down so hard when they don't. I don't mind saying I think it's absolutely hilarious and I take a small amount of joy in their futility.

Also, I don't entirely get the hate that Tampa gets. I like a lot of their players and their team in general.

Oh, believe me, I'm NOT proud of admitting that. I even agree with everything you say about Leafs fans. I just dislike Tampa that much more.

What is it about them that annoys you?
They've been too good for too long, obnoxious friends/acquaintances, cap circumvention.

Honestly, it's mainly the too good for too long. I can't stand dynasties if my team (and they've never been) isn't involved. And I may, or may not, have entered into a bet that would see me Nair my legs should Tampa win. So. Yeah. Go Leafs.

Hard not to just cheer for Tampa here. I just want major changes in the offseason this year and Toronto losing would spark a snowball effect around the league imo
