A lot of this ignores the facts that penalties are being called at a lower rate than ever and scoring is slipping into a dead-puck-era redux abyss, which is what guys like Ovechkin and Kovalchuk feed off of. I don't think anyone can argue that maybe those guys aren't as explosive as they used to be (that happens to everyone), but I think it's an astronomical leap to think that's the leading factor in their declining production.

Players also learn to play smarter and not put their bodies on the line as they age. Nobody is going to have a long career playing at 110 MPH for 15 years. As he ages, LeBron James is going to take less risks and be less "explosive", but he's not going to be a worse player.

I stand by my assertion that if the Capitals were a more well run organization, Ovechkin would still be in the "best player" discussion.

And, Vajaaki, I'm not really interested in having a discussion based solely on your absurd extrapolations based on what under armor outfit players wear. But if you think a player on defense playing 26 minutes is the same as a forward, you don't have any idea what you're talking about. There's a reason the last forward to average 26 minutes a night was Pavel Bure in 2000-2001. Was he fat and out of shape, too? Did he lack explosiveness? Silly.

Ryan Smyth is such a mouthy jackass. I know Oiler fans think the guy is a saint but he's always been this way, mouthy and cheap.

I hate him being called captain Canada or whatever it is.

I lost respect for him when he was crying over leaving Edmonton..... over a few hundred thousand dollars.

On a side note to the Wings/Oilers game... Mark Lee is such a horrible homer for the Oilers. All game he has been going on about how awesome and Elite the Oilers are.

I am so glad he will not be doing any Canucks games as I could not handle this on a regular basis. Like I litterally muted the TV I could not stand it anymore. I am going to complain to the CBC I think, cause he is so not neutral!

Edit: Yakupov is nothing like Bure! Federov Mogilny and Bure were the height of Russian players. Ovie is a shell of what he should be, and I know Yakupov is young, but remember the impact all three of those russians made? None of these guys is even close IMHO.

I'm enjoying Greg Millen not realizing their are two Schultz's on the Oilers. Justin has been credited for everything, even the nice plays that Nick Schultz makes in the D end.

Taylor Hall is such a stupid player, holy crap. Seguin would have been the perfect fit in Edmonton too.

In an alternate universe, the 2013 Edmonton Oilers look more like this:

Seguin - RNH - Eberle
MPS - Gagner - Hemsky

Murray/Schultz

Dubnyk

Millen lauding Tambellini for the "tremendous job" he's done rebuilding the Oilers.

Boy, pilot your team to multiple basement finishes, pick the consensus #1 each year, and be .500 over 10 games and you too can be a "tremendous" general manager.*
