Fun stats of the day:

The Islanders are 16-1-0 against the Sabres, Devils, and Bruins this year (5-0-0 against Boston).

They're 6-9-4 against the remaining 4 teams in their division.

It's kind of fun to see the Islanders beating the Bruins at their own game, playing a tight defensive, physical style that Boston has used for years.

5 Grand? Guess Connor has to grab that loose change from the ashtray in his car and pay the fine. It was late with a dirty follow through. If we meet them in the playoffs, I hope Oiler fans remember that.

Boston just doesn't have the forward depth to compete and their defense/goaltending has been suspect too. They can do well against Washington and PIT's iffy goaltending, but they've sucked against the Islanders and Devils this year.

Yeah looks like Covid picked a crappy year to change up the divisions. The annual playoff series to the Bruins used to scare me, but they have lost a step this year. That top line is still very very good, but they don't have the same swagger. Hoping we get a chance at them in the 3rd round :-). (*Disclaimer that is NOT a prediction of any playoff success. *)

It's funny, I thought to myself they're basically becoming what Boston was.

And that is a very good, but collective team unit who seems to play above their skill

Agree, except that they don't have as much elite talent (outside of Barzal) as Bostonbut they have better depth than the Bruins have had.

Which is an obstacle as they just don't quite have the offensive punch that could easily put them over the top.

To me, they're a high floor, low ceiling team. Certainly can win the cup with their game if they get all the breaks but against top end teams, they would fall short.

In fairness, that perfection line really came out of nowhere to give them top end talent. They went from a deep team to one driven by a "big line"

Well reading the other Canadian teams forums, Matthews isn't really a star so you obviously throw the book at him if he does it :D

if matthews did it i would want him to sit out a game. crap like that doesn't belong regardless if it's a star or not, and the NHL needs to stop having different rules for different players.

yea I get it but it is was it is ... but they usually will start with a fine and then the next time suspension and so on

Plus he's a Leaf. People will tune in and show up (when allowed to) for Leaf games regardless of whether Matthews is playing or not. So the NHL doesn't lose anything in suspending him. In fact it would let them pretend they have standards to throw the book at him.

No one is watching the Oilers if McDavid or Draisaitl are suspended.

Kind of kidding, but kind of not. It's possible they'd just fine Matthews. But I could easily see a one or two game suspension for him if he did the same thing McDavid did.

You have point. Who watches the LOILERS if McDavid isn't playing? Edmontonians would rather watch their neighbour cow give birth.
