From where I'm sitting, this series is all about special teams. In the three games the caps won, there were 9, 6, and 15 penalties called split fairly evenly between both teams. That's an average of 10 per game. There were 4 penalties total called in game 1. Vegas has a terrible Power Play and an average PK. Washington has one of the best Power Plays in hockey. Vegas is the superior team even strength, that is their bread and butter.
Washington has figured out how to beat Vegas. Who cares if you are penalized equally, you will score 2x as many times on the power play as Vegas. So, goon it up, get Vegas to play physical and retaliate, success. Thus, it's all on the refs for tomorrow night.
And I know it's pretty much over, they have to win tomorrow. I wouldn't want to be Washington going home up 3-2 with the possibility that if they lose, you go back to the gong show that is Vegas for game 7. After all, it has not been uncommon for the Caps to choke up 3-2 in a series. All the pressure will be on Washington if it gets to game 6.
