  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Morgan Geekie has an outside shot at 30 goals this year. Imagine telling Canes fans that in 2020.
Speaks to our drafting, pro-scouting and depth. Geekie was a draftee of ours, but we as an organization have unearthed a lot of gems from day 2 in the draft and from the AHL that have found their way to permanent NHL homes, largely on other teams. I mean it sucks to lose Geekie but he was picked by expansion draft and there's not much you can do about it.

If we were a less successful organization we would be taking other teams' Morgan Geekies to fill out our roster spots.

Eh, it was more of a commentary that he never showed nearly that kind of scoring touch with us (nor with Seattle, for that matter)

Yup. He had a huge shot from day one. The skating was something he had to adapt to still but he played our style to a t from his first game. I wasn’t happy we let him go.
what was the alternative in that expansion draft though? I don't really remember but at the time nobody had complaints about letting him get taken. And I still don't really miss him much at all. Solid player but easily replaceable. I miss Foegele more

Bean was the one most of us expected Francis to take. Former first round pick of Francis, still young offensive D. The Canes also exposed Nino, who was a year away from UFA.

The Canes traded Bean to Columbus 2 days later.

In terms of who they should have exposed to protect Geekie? The only choice I see was Fast vs Geekie. The rest of the position players were pretty obvious choices: Aho, Svech, Trocheck, TT, Foegele, Fast, Slavin, Pesce, Skjei.

Yeah so I can see an argument for protecting Geekie over Fast but even with hindsight being 20/20 I have no issues with protecting Fast. He was a pretty important piece of this team on the Staal Martinook line for a few years before his recent injury. Geekie is a fine player, but not some big missed opportunity in my view.

Fast was a great and valued team mate

I hope he was recovered from the severe neck injury and now can have a normal life without pain.

I miss them both but Foegele I think needed the growth of moving on. With Geekie I don’t remember the details and it wasn’t about I wanted this guy taken vs that guy. I wasn’t surprised he was the one taken, I assumed we had communication with RF and they identified who they’d give up.

I don’t expect you to remember my posts from back then but I was someone that thought Geekie could have a future. I didn’t freak out that we lost him as we had to lose someone but I would’ve liked to hold on to him.

I by no means said he’d be a 30 goal scorer. He had a heavy shot, was a righty center and is a two way guy. I thought he’d have value, though the slow feet would hamper his ceiling was my assumption. I think the biggest difference between now and then is he looks lighter on his feet.

The man is out of touch.

1900 votes so far. 94.5% want 1v8 format back.

This is a poor example of his time as commissioner, because he is dead wrong on this however, the league is so much more popular than before he took over, revenue is through the roof. He has made the league a ton better despite the Arizona debacle and the fact the playoff format is stupid.
