I know that the Rangers have a real knack of getting out of bad contracts, but if we've learned anything from the likes of Chicago and San Jose, there can be a critical point where having too many awful contracts cause you to rebuild. I'm about 90% sure, however, that the Canes' move to get Rantanen backed the Rangers into a corner, considering that they have a salivating and hangry fanbase that they need to appease. I wouldn't be shocked if New York takes on the full contract.

One of Miller or EP simply had to go, it became a circus after JR’s public comments. To manage to come out of it with a protected 1st and JT’s contract off the books isn’t exactly a bad thing.

Idk, JT could easily be a net negative with that contract. Even if not I don’t think he moved the needle much for them. They needed some young talent there not another overpaid underperforming vet
