Wow:
It sometimes appears that the shelf life of some of the bigger contracts is less these days or maybe it's just that disappointment sets in sooner than expected with vocal fans.I can't wait to see the sorts of albatrosses that will be handed out in this period. Part of the reason why the 2016 UFA contracts were so godawful was because a weak class was showered with cash at a time when the cap was rapidly rising.

Quite frankly, this is why I would love to get Rantanen signed sooner rather than later. If the cap really does continue to go up like this, if you give him his asking price today it'll look cheap within 2 years, and downright reasonable by the end. It sounds crazy, but I would not be shocked to see $20m per year contracts by the end of the decade. The rising cap is going to completetly reset the market, and I'm very glad we have as many guys on max term contracts as we do. Our spending power over the next few years is going to be ridiculous.I can't wait to see the sorts of albatrosses that will be handed out in this period. I think we need to raid the Flyers board and save any of those poor souls who are left following that team. Ooof!

Yeah I figure McDavid and Makar will completely reset the market when they signThey'll be alright depending on if the Eagles win the Super Bowl next Sunday. If the Eagles don't then we'll invite them for a tasty meal at Bojangles.
It won't be quite 2016 NBA dumb (hello Nic Batum!) but yeah there's going to be some GM firings later on because of the rising cap. Hopefully our front office keeps it simple and smart.
I fully expect McDavid to get the first $20million in 2026. After that there will be more for sure.
Wow:
We are a competitive team right now, we have some great prospects about to come in and we are going to have about $40m in cap space to spend this summer.I haven’t figured out if this helps or hurts the Canes in both keeping Rantanen or in general.
I’m glad we have the nerd heard in charge though

It's nice to have the actual numbers, but they've been speculated to be in the range that was announced. That's why I'm not and haven't been afraid to go that far if they really think they have the guy. However, I also wasn't mad losing an extra year of Necas even if we lose Rantanen, because we'll be set up to add pieces regardless.I don't think Rantanen would have a hard time getting $14M on the open market with this news.
