I can’t see how he did much wrong there (Chicago). Even with additions they’re still pretty bad on paper. Wonder if there’s some things going on behind the scenes that led to it.

EDIT - LOL. It sensored the "R" word to "pejorative slur". Tropic Thunder is too edgy for hfboards. Double edit - it even did so in the link! So the link doesn't work because it literally replaced "r*****" with "pejorative slur"
Replace the word "Pejorative Slur" with "rebuild". Clubs that burn it all to the ground and then try to galaxy brain their way into a new roster with a handful of shiny new lottery picks almost always fail. You need leadership. You need a winning culture. You need good defensive play. Newer players joining a losing club will learn losing ways.
It was one thing to move on from Keith and Toews and Kane. Their time had run dry. But to give up on Dylan Strome, Alex DeBrincat, Brandon Hagel is wild. Those guys were like 22 years old when they gave them up. It just made no sense to blow it up to the extent that they did, and then turn around and give up a bunch of assets and capspace to Seth Jones.

Their tear down was ridiculous. Scorched earth takes more than a year or two to come back from.

Makes sense. They have to do something, and Trouba was already on thin ice this past off-season

He already blocked the trade to Detroit with his ntc. It’ll be interesting to see if he accepts it now. Accepting a trade allows you to pick vs seeing how waivers goes if multiple teams are interested.

It'll be interesting to see what the conclusion is. I don't like this because New York stands to get better just by moving on from this bum.
If Columbus is willing to trade for Trouba, they will absolutely claim him off waivers.
I assumed Columbus was behind Utah in the standings, but Utah would get to claim ahead of Columbus right now. Both have the cap space to do it.

Canes already incur too many injuries against them as it is - no need to increase the risk.

I believe his wife is in her last year of residency.
The Residency year ends June 30th so Trouba will have to decide whether being a bachelor for 6+ months & whether the destination city is a benefit for her career is worth it.
For the Canes, having Trouba in the defense this year is a positive given his declining skills.

I think it's almost certain that any team that takes on Trouba will either get a 1st for their trouble or will send bad contracts the other way (Holl and/or Chiarot).

It won't be free this time, I'm pretty sure. Goodrow's cap hit was smaller and he was coming off of an excellent postseason.

Well we see teams get out of cap hell surprisingly easy at times. If this is all true we’ll see soon enough.
You would think Trouba and out and Tkachuk in would cost the Rangers more than Lafreniere. Plus, if Tkachuk is really in play, there would be a lot more teams at the door bidding for him (including Canes I would think):

If it wasn't NYR, they might risk being questioned for circumvention if they sweeten the waivers deal with some suspiciously well-timed future considerations shenanigans.
the fact that your ACTIVE CAPTAIN is someone you need to visciously strong arm off your team in some soap opera-like display says so much about the Rangers right now. LOL.
