Around The League 24/25. Parity, blessed parity.

Tuned into the game and Ovechkin scored the record tying goal within a few seconds. I feel so lucky, I really wanted to see it and forgot they were playing tonight. Just amazing to see hockey history, I was too young to witness Gretz doing his thing and I never thought anyone could beat such a major Gretzky record. And he did it in less games, not just by playing way longer.

As a hockey fan I feel lucky that I caught that moment but also just watching Ovechkin career in general. Just a goal scoring machine, special talent and really unique.

Edit: it’s also dawning on me that we might see Ovechkins record beat in a couple decades.. maybe someone gets 1,000. Ovechkin didn’t join the NHL right at 18, missed time to lockouts. So many talented players these days, if guys stay healthy and don’t miss time to lockouts or anything it is achievable

Could you imagine they win 16 (The number of wins to win the cup) in a row to end the season and then immediately get swept in the first round
I honestly could. They will be against a good team.

I don't know if the coolness of breaking the record with a hat trick would've outweighed the lameness of breaking it on an empty net goal.

Glad the Capitals didn't force it when Chicago pulled their goalie.

Personally, I'm getting sick and tired of it and seeing it all the time. I for one will be glad when it's over. Give the man his due, but I'm not obsessing over it. It's going to be a tough record to break, given that you need to be producing into your later years. Gretz's points record will probably never be broken. A few 200+ point seasons pretty much guaranteed that.

They will certainly overdo it like usual.

Classic NHL if its at 10:30AM on Sunday morning for half the country when it happens.

You're joking, right?
I was having a little fun but I don’t think it’s impossible. Everyone doubted Ovechkin even just a couple years ago. He missed seasons to lockouts, to covid. If a young talented player can stay healthy and not miss seasons to BS I think 1k goals is attainable.

But notice I just said he might push for it. Kids still a teenager on a godawful team, I think he’s going to end up way better in his prime than you think.

Bedard or not, somebody can score 1k in my lifetime

Sounds like you don’t like Ovechkin. I love him, love hockey, love being able to witness hockey history.

Some of you had the 80s and that’s cool but it’s 2025 and cool to see an all time record tied and soon to be broken.

Nobody ever touches the assists or points unless the league reduces pad sizes and enlarges nets lol
