I don’t hate the idea of the Flames getting in over the Canucks. On the other hand the nightmare material would be pretty unbearable if they did the unthinkable.

After a decade of being humbled, those second round playoff victorys over Calgary and Vancouver put the Oilers firmly at the top of the western Canadian hiearchy for the foreseeable future and they know it. For Oilers fans those teams are in our rear view mirror and there’s only one fish left to fry.

I don’t think it’s arrogant to put it that way with the team that we have and their progression after two straight tough losses. Losing to Colorado wasn’t a tough loss for me - that team was a historically-good wagon and was going to steamroll any team that year.

Meanwhile, the Canes blow a 2-0 lead on the road against the Islanders, who were playing the second game of a back-to-back. Just an OT loss...but it still looks good on them after all the gloating their fanbase was doing after the Rantanen trade.

Necas goes dash three in his debut. Played over 25 minutes.

Thinking they could just plug and play Necas and it would all work out is crazy. Welcome to Colorado - you have to play 25+ mins against the best of the best and you better score while doing it. The depth issues there still persist, except now with a worse player up top that has never played anywhere close to this type of role and has been a wildly inconsistent player over his career.

I guess we’ll see what else they do, but it will be interesting regardless. Maybe once the dust settles after the deadline it will all make sense, but at the moment I don’t see the path to it.

That division doesn't have a clear favorite any longer, they are all inconsistent. The West has Vegas and Oilers, then the Kings.

I feel like the playoff central teams can all either go all the way or get swept in the first round and it could go either way for any of them.

Depending on the week you get them it can either be an easy win or get killed.
