I accepted the fact Edmonton was probably going to the SCF last year when they avoided Vegas in R1.

Toronto is 100% going to be there this year. Only hope is a complete team like Vegas beats them.

a healthy version of the florida teams could take out the leafs, but otherwise yeah

So Washington, Carolina , Florida/Tampa will just let the Mighty Leaves overpower them because....... why again?
Weird take to be sure. You've already punched the Leaves a ticket to the finals and are cutting them rings.

Or maybe Toronto is just a better team. The guy behind T0's bench isn't some scrub.
I thought about this the other day and how it kind of relates to the Canucks. Although Tocchet does not have near the track record of Craig. A couple years ago when he was coaching St. Louis

he made comments suggesting that the team's top players lacked passion and dedication. Berube consistently emphasized the need for players to bring more emotion, grit, and inspiration to their play. He felt that their lack of "inspired hockey" was a significant issue.

Berube ended up moving on and they hired Drew Bannister, they got the new coach bump played .600 hockey for the rest of that year, then onto this year where obviously things didn't start well. Fired Drew and hired Jim Montgomery, new coach bump again??? but they are in the playoffs. They don't look like a team that lacks passion or grit.

So how does this relate, Tocchet's comments relate a bit to the Canucks the same way Berube's did. I don't want to hire a new coach like STL did with Bannister but maybe it is time for a new voice in the room for the Canucks.

How did any of this relate to needing a new voice

And?
They show some inspiration down the sfretch.

I mean i dont even know why blues fires berube - they were Lso breaking in young guys in big roles and i think there were some injuries

That sounds familiar too

Injuries consistent with a normal NHL season. They did sell that year, O'Reilly, Barbashev, Tarasenko, Accari, Mikkola.

I guess the question is do you believe that with Berube they would have returned to success the next season or would it have been the same and you've just wasted another year?

amazing commentary from around the league

1) a reporter calls out Boston's drafting being sh!t and Neely calls the reporter into his office
(that high schooler they drafted last year was f***ING BRUTAL, and i watched a lot BC games, Dean lefornier or something like that, he has massive conditioning and skating issues, I think the guy chosen after was the OHL scoring champion)

2) dylan larkin calling out stevie Y
(self explanatory)

3) dubas saying a 15 year vet in Karlsson needs to change his game
(you traded for him and his cap space idiot, why would he change now for you?)

EK is who he is now. Guy is 17 years post draft. If Sid hasn’t rubbed off on him that’s on him.

Larkin has now missed the PO for 9 straight seasons with Detroit. He’s 29. Qualified in 2016, and nothing since. You can tell he’s frustrated. Could have left after his 2nd contract at age 27. But signed an extension with them. Missed the past 2 PO by a total of single digit points I believe.

I was like how bad can a first round pick be? 3 Points (all assists) in 36 games as a center is how bad. Their starting goaltending had 2 assists.

Yzerman called himself out last year or whenever when he said he failed at the rebuild and needed to do it again. How he wasn't removed 5 minutes after that press conference I'll never know.

Dubas is an idiot.

Somehow an even worse first season than Patrick White.
"Safe Pick" White. Floor was such that he would definitely be a NHL player unlike Perron who would be to big a risk to bust. Keep in mind Perron had just lit up the U18 tourney at the Pacific Colliseum or something like that. Nonis wanted the safe pick.

That draft was hilariously bad. White instead of Perron. Ellington instead of Subban. 6 draft picks with a grand total of ZERO NHL games (and only 80 total AHL games!).

1 sounds hilarious - any more details on that?

3 is a little more nuanced - Dubas was calling out his inconsistency, especially in light of how well he played at 4 Nations.

Drury extension in New York :biglaugh:
Interesting... Wonder if this gives him the rope to hand over their 2025 pick to Pitt at #11. Gives him time to do what he and the organization have discussed.

Not sure if this is the right move, but I believe in never going into the year with a GM on the Hot Seat. You want them to make the right moves for the team. Not do the Benning, trade for OEL and hope that saves his job but then it as expected blows up and the team ultimately has to buy the player out.

Always better to move off GM a year early than a year late. So, if they gave him another 2-3 years, then they have to give him the time.

Down to 1 final year with Panarin. Younger players haven't really stepped up enough. A little stuck right now.
