It’s a shame Blake wasted bullets on Dubois with teams like the Sabres, Canucks, and Rangers looking to shake things up with a big trade. Now’s the time to be big game hunting—think our only chance now is Rantanen (or dog forbid Marner) in the summer.

37 goal pace for Vilardi

He has 17 right now. Same as Kempe.
The Kings have shown up to play this year, no doubt, but here's my monthly reminder of the Kings roster if they'd done absolutely nothing except re-signing players we had, making draft pick-only trades (i.e. Yannetti-guided) or signing free agents for cap hits similar to the players they're replacing (e.g. Foegele for Arvidsson and Edmundson for Roy).

Turcotte - Kopitar - Kempe
Laferriere - Byfield - Vilardi
Moore - Danault - Foegele
Iafallo - Helenius - Thomas
*Lee, Kaliyev

Anderson - Faber
Edmundson - Clarke
Moverare - Spence
Burroughs*

Quick
Rittich
Copley
Petersen buried in the minors

IR: Doughty, Durzi
Two additional 1st round picks: Liam Ohgren (Wild), Oliver Bonk (Flyers via Blue Jackets)

And my back of the envelope math shows the cap for that roster between $84-88M depending on how long guys are on IR.

i dont keep up with how much cap we have /money stuff but miko rantanen would be a perfect fit with our present team. dudes a beast.
i also think we need size and snarl on defense- the leauge is starting to trend back to bigger players. adam larsen/esa lindell?
NO MARNER and NO MARNERS DAD
You’ll get Lizotte for Turcotte and like it.

Rags and Nucks both having absolutely cursed seasons along with Nashville. All 3 teams were playoff bound last year and its looking grim for each. The Nucks might be able to squeak in but probably not with injuries they've been having, plus their GM just alluded to Pettersson being moved.

I was just thinking about this.

This puts Colorado in an awkward position in terms of the cap.

They have to re-sign Rantanen too. That gets a bit more difficult if Landeskog's 7M is on the books.
If they're cap savvy like Vegas they'll leave him off the roster until the post-season and bring him in, ala Mark Stone. Would love to somehow nab Rantanen, what a f***ing player that guy is. He's like the Finnish Kempe, but possibly even better (not a knock on Kempe either, Mikko is just that good)...

Good point. They have 3.8m cap space at the moment w Miles Wood on LTIR. Mittlestadt is 5.75m aav without any movement restrictions.. he'd be the most likely candidate to be traded to make room for skog.. and might be able to squeeze Wood back in as well. Edit: then in offseason figure out how to sign Rantenen.. cap goes up, so might have room.

Wow there’s really not much separating the top 5 teams of the pacific. I didn’t know the Pacific is very tight. 7 points separate the Kings from second to 6th place.

One short bad stretch and they’re out of a playoff spot.

Seattle making the playoffs in 2023 ended up being bad news for their long-term outlook.

The concerns about Beniers offensive upside appear to be legit, Wright is ok, but doesn't appear to be a future 1st line player and now they are just kind of stuck in no-mans land (would pick 10th in the draft based on current standings).

Seems like as good a time as any to point out that the Kings are on pace to have the most points in franchise history....

I was already aware. I just received my 4th annual "Told you so" PM from Axl. It's a holiday tradition.

I don't think he's aware that Pacific 2 plays Pacific 3 in the playoffs.

It's because of the OT/SO points.

Regulation Wins:

Knights 22
Kings 21
Oilers 15
Canucks 14
Flames 13

Ridiculous that the Flames are only 6 points behind us with only 13 regular wins and -10 goal differential.

LA has the 4th best record in the league (.622). Had they gone .500 in the OT/SO they'd be challenging for the President's Trophy right now.

This is true, but the Kings are aware of the rules, since they have been in place for a long-time now.

When you build a defensive oriented team that is designed to grind out 3-2 wins with a roster lacking top-end talent, you aren't going to be in a great spot when it goes to 3 on 3 or the shootout gimmick, even the strongest supporters of this roster would agree with that. I wish the NHL would make every game a 3 point game, but that is never going to be a reality in the age of forced parity.
