A gut wrenching thought is JQ never wouldve been dealt had Peterseive been even average. I think JQ was mentally checked into the backup role and was shitty no excuse there. But because Peterson was absolute dogshit, Blake got desperate. Just another in a string of gut punches from his tenure as Gee "what am i doing" Emm.
It wasn't until he accepted the back up role and finally changed his playing style was he able to carry on his career in NYC. He was pretty much cooked here, and just a swimming mess in the crease. Really happy he's doing well with the Rangers.

That’s how I see it, he just needed a change of scene and perspective. It happens all the time in all sports, so I don’t see this particular one as being an issue related to the current regime.

there is no objective measurement for how the stanley cup 2X winning goaltender was treated by the current regime upon his trade to the current siberia of the nhl.
he was not given the respect he deserved as a great champion. who does the responsibility for that rest with ?

I love that Quick gets to do all this on the East Coast and force the haters to eat crow

Double bonus that certain Rangers fans have to enjoy it
i love to watch how uncomfortable queen henrik gets on tv when quick gets another win

Quick was never once treated as the backup in LA. Even when Cal was playing his best hockey, he was very much treated as a 1B at best, and key starts would be given to Quick over him.

I still suspect that was part of what led to Cal's decline and mental issues.

Separate issue… I’m talking about his play.

However being business about it I personally have no issue with trading him. I also don’t think there is a need to tell him in advance.

So much depends on how quickly the deal comes together, the confidentiality required by the other team. It’s not as simple as saying ‘he won two cups’. There are too many moving parts to objectively judge it.

The point is, If Blake's heir apparent had been even decent, JQ probably still around.. agree or disagree?

Disagree.

Quick wasn't ready to give up the spot and I am fairly confident that the Cup core weren't going to let it happen.
The way I see it playing out hypothetically is if Cal had won some games and kept his save pct about say .905 or above, he'd be getting the majority of the starts, and JQ's decline would make it easy for the coach to keep staring Cal... that would prevent the scenario where both goalies are terrible and make Blake less inclined to pick up a goalie at the deadline.

The problem is Quick was never not going to be treated as THE guy here even hypothetically. Even when he was struggling, Todd kept going back to him and relying on him.

Here's an example, March 6th, and 7th. Cal starts back to back nights and plays well. Given up 2 goals in 2 games. Guess who gets the start in that March 10th 4-3 loss? Quick. Cal was never going to be treated as the guy. Not even hypothetically.

So you are making the case (albeit w slim evidence) that Blake did a Billy Bean and moved JQ so Todd would not play him anymore?

Lol. Not sure Blake is capable of 4D chess thinking like that. It's just as likely he traded him because he thought there was no more gas in the tank and it was the only way to fit Gavrikov and Korpisalo in under the cap.

haha we both know he's not even capable of 3D chess - maybe checkers.. but I still think if CalPete was decent, he doesnt look to make a goalie move..because Gav was only making 2.8m and he couldve created space in other ways.. without creating the uproar from moving a legend.

Salary cap wise, the Kings would’ve been able to fit Gavrikov and Korpisalo under the cap without moving out any salary due to their accumulated deadline cap space. Blake’s crack team not knowing this and thinking incorrectly that moving Quick in a cap dump was necessary tracks completely and is probably what actually happened.

It makes sense. Sure it is a life many dream of, but it isn't easy being a professional athlete and there's certainly a high cost to most who do. The amount of time, effort, and strain on both your childhood and adult families is enormous, you sacrifice a lot of time and freedom be it practicing, constantly working out at a very high level, dieting and training, and always traveling. Then, it can be a bit of a dice roll over the career you have, a lot of risk and factors outside of your control and take everything from you at a moment's notice. Finally, you could be left with debilitating permanent injuries, pain, and body damage for the rest of your life after retirement. Obviously, many here would say they would trade places in an instant and wipe their tears with stacks of money, but most don't live the dream and few enjoy it like they are living the high life with no worries.

The thing about Quick is that he’s doing better now but I think his ego had to be hurt for him to truly adjust. He plays a different game now and I think being traded by the Kings maybe got him wondering why. Quick was still playing like a rookie in his positioning when his body wasn’t there at his age. Did they treat Quick poorly? Yeah. Does Quick likely have an ego, I am pretty sure he does too. The spot wasn’t available, he was too proud to adjust his game and he got traded.

he was a laughing stock around the time he was traded. Our team defense sucked at the time and so did he.

Him being traded was the best thing that could have happened to him.

The Ducks are actually going to be good in a couple years. They have a fantastic young core.

The Kings are going to top out at “mediocre” for the next decade plus.
Again, I don’t think people realize that the Kings prized pony ceiling is likely a tier or two below a star. If your entire rebuild rides on that guy then you’re truly f***ed. Knowing the Kings they’re gonna pretend that there’s something there until too much time has passed. Kings are legit primed for another rebuild right now.
