we dodged a bullet not trading for karlsson, guy has been a straight up liability. brilliant stuff from mike grier though. helped the tank, saved $45 million (the sharks owner must love him), got a 1st round pick, and granlund will be flipped at the deadline for another 1st round pick (a player i would love to have as our 3rd line c btw).

karlssons value now? a 50% retention cap dump or buyout.

There’s a decent chance both Florida and Tampa can lose again tonight. Panthers host Colorado and Tampa hosts Dallas. Two strong central division teams could do us a big favour here.

Karlsson would be a detriment to the Leafs D. You think he'd listen to Berube and actually play the right way? Very unlikely.

Yes, indeed...I don't doubt Dubas would have traded for Karlsson to the Leafs had he remained GM...what a charlatan he is.

Have no idea how you could look at the leafs struggles the past 5 years and think Karlsson would be the solution. Like he saw how awful Barrie turned out and wanted to try it again.

Does the dude do any live scouting or is he just a box score watcher or something?

SJS likely got their new #1 D with that first they got (they traded up 3 more spots with it)

And Pens already had a similar dman in Letang. Guy probably just fantasizes team building on a spreadsheet.

Tampa is no threat to the Leafs. Florida would be, but I think they will sleepwalk through long stretches of the season as they have already been there, done that when it comes to the regular season. They also need to find a way to acquire a couple of additional defensemen. They can't go into the playoffs with what they currently have.

on the Florida point, tonight is a good example. They look pretty disinterested, especially defensively. I think the Avalanche will score 5 or 6 goals in this game.

Tampa is within spitting distance of us in the standings and if not for their last loss could’ve leapfrogged us if they won out their games in hand. They’ll probably fade and finish 3rd or 4th like they have the past three years but I’ll appreciate any loss an Atlantic division team endures.

I hope Florida doesn’t care too much to try for the division, but they kind of did that last year before Boston stumbled to end the season (or threw games so they could face us in the playoffs) and the Panthers passed them on like the final day of the season.

I've watched a number of Florida games this season, including tonight's game. They look disinterested, which is understandable. Tampa was the same near the end of their run. Florida's defense is also going to be a big problem for them. I think they will finish second in the division and likely beat whichever team finishes in third, but they lost too much in the off-season and weren't able to replace them. This game tonight is a disaster for them. Colorado is dominating them.

Florida has also played a ton of hockey the past two seasons, so wouldn't at all be surprised if they start to get worn down at some point this regular season.

I think that will certainly add to it, but their defense is really sub-par. People are underestimating what they lost in the off-season, including OEL.

If Dubas could only get Kerfoot, Johnsson, Malgin, Petan and Barrie to the Pens, I think he could turn them around quickly...:sarcasm:
He signed Johnsson his first year in Pitts .. didnt work out. Also acquired Bunting and signed Acciari...brought Spezza with him and our scouting director.

Looks like the Sens bought high on this guy and unfortunately he's not the difference maker they thought.
Ullmark was never going to be good playing behind Ottawa's defense and a terrible coach in Green. They will be trying to unload his contract within a year.
