Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

what florida has done in the past 3 years is nothing short of remarkable

3 finals, 1 cup already, and are setup well for the next 5-10 years

I wish we had management and players with buy in like that

Not sure if they are setup for next 3-5 years
This could be their last run

Brob is 38. Bennet and Ekblad are FA

To me this is their last hoorah

To think the Leafs could have played (and beaten) this lame fraud Canes team if they stepped on the throats of these Panthers as they could and should have. Yet another wasted opportunity.
should've? Sure a true contender up 2-0 in a series and 3-1 in game 3 should close that series out

could've? You've seen the past 9 years, this isn't all too surprising IMO. We didn't have that ability to close them out.

Stopped watching after the empty net but noticed the Canes crowd was upbeat throughout as their team choked multiple leads/ties in the game. Energy seemed good in the crowd. They quieted down in the last 5:53 but were cheering again when Carolina got the powerplay.

Not the same context bc Carolina has a cup in the 21st century but interesting to see the difference

Lundell locked up long-term on a steal, that is bennet's replacement

Jones replaces Ekblad at similar cost

Reinhart, Tkachuk, Forsling, Barkov all signed long term on favourable deals

Samoskevich should take a bigger role

Bob is old, but makes nearly 11m they can use to upgrade the roster

I think they have the core pieces, just need to tinker and best believe Zito will do that

They recognized their team brought it tonight that’s for sure.

You're not wrong but they are such a disgusting team. Dive all over the place, embellish hard, go to the locker room and come out the next shift to try to draw every penalty they can, and elbow goalies. Then throw compliments about their opponents in the post game.

I guess they've figured out the game and they are playing it to a tee. As the saying goes, don't hate the player, hate the game. It's just disappointing that the league is reffed in a way where this kind of cheap play is rewarded.

call it management if you want... income tax should clearly be accounted for in the cap if the league really wants parity

We are now at the point where many of the kids born in the year the Canes won the thing are in college already.

We are old farts that make old men noises and bitch about weather, but a lot of the fans in the stands weren't even alive then.

...I don't know where I was going with this but time is inevitable and this guacamole i made the other day is still f***ing delicious. The end.

contrasting it to the leafs isn't really fair

we went into game 7 at a high with how game 6 was and we had been blown out in game 5 at home. Carolina fans booed heavy in parts of game 1 and 2. They also kinda knew this series was over when they went down 3-0, so the loss was in the back of the minds.

their game 5 was our game 3. Multi goal lead blown, then comeback that ultimately fails our game 7 was a systematic and individual beatdown of our team, identity, players and org.

Pisses me off how we sold out the one thing we were good at as a country to "grow the game" and people act like this is a good thing and a Canadian virtue. Crazy how a league that was at one point majority Canadian has had 25% or less of the total teams in the league

they couldn't get shit when they sucked

this notion only is around because they are winning, so players go there. No one was headed there in 2015-2019.

Bob got f***ing 11M even though the income tax was low back then, overpaid af because they wanted a good goalie but they paid an absolute premium.

You're not wrong about how long it's been but it's also a 30+ team league. With perfect parity a team should win a cup 1x every 30ish years. I think going very long without one like the Leafs have or having not even made the semi finals for so long adds a collective feeling of "damn we suck," "this team is embarrassing," "another year same old story" etc that those Canes fans starting college won't feel right now.

Never was a guac fan but hope ya enjoy it brodie

You sure that wasn't because of previous ownership possibly being cheap?

The salary cap was never about parity, it was about cost certainty. What's funny is the the NHL has way more parity than something like the NBA or especially MLB, where the Rockies are literally on pace to be the worst team since the 19th century(!) at the moment and a bunch of the teams exist only as farm teams.

I am one of the least picky eaters on the planet. I will devour almost anything.

That one step closer to a repeat of last season's SCF (yay! :sarcasm:)

I remember Marian Hossa being on the wrong side both times in Pittsburgh vs Detroit going back-to-back, but I can't as easily recall a time that a team has won both in a back-to-back? Edmonton defeating Boston in 1988 and 1990 almost qualifies.
