Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Maybe it wasn't Stonehands Hyman that's the issue, perhaps it's Magic Mitch isn't very magical...took Marner 9 years to hit 100 points...Hyman scored 54 goals last year with Edmonton...someone must be feeding him good passes, and it ain't Marner.

You ever notice how every time the media has something to say about Marner it starts off with.

“Mitch Marner is a fantastic/talented/elite player” as a prefix to what the actual statement is going to be? The tire pumping on that guy is quite something.

Boy, just listened to the Maurice post game presser and it’s really no wonder the hockey media is so awful. His question to that reporter speaks volumes about who and what they are in 2025.

No professional sports team in Miami, or Phoenix, or a few other citiies will ever draw if they're not successful.

Pro sports are not ingrained in the city culture the way they are in cities like Toronto, Boston, Chicago or NY. Most people in Miami were either born outside the US or are 1st generational Americans. English is the 2nd language.

Yeah I think that’s the reality of the situation but this is where the hard cap and revenue sharing model starts to be a point of contention.

In other leagues those big market teams drive revenues, interest, are built on star power and they charge an arm and a leg. In the NHL the big markets are artificially limited on the ice but not restricted when it comes to charging ticket prices. There’s a fundamental conflict of interest there.

The NHL has an agenda and they push who they want to push. It's not specifically a Panthers issue at all it's a league issue.

Best sport, worst league.

Yeah, the media really pumps his tires...I always thought Marner is just a very good player...playoffs is another story...if he had a great shot instead of a muffin, he would be elite.

Feels like its Edmonton's year.

Many of their fans can be insufferable, especially on this site but would be nice to see McDavid get 1 and a Canadian team at that. Would be funny seeing McDavid beat Tkachuk at the 4 Nations and then in the cup finals.
Yeah they really got the plot armour vibe this year. Even with Dallas' comeback win in game 1 i wasn't convinced they matchup well with Edmonton.

Let's win it this year, and then he can leave next summer and win you guys a cup (I won't be upset one bit). He will have earned that right. I feel like him taking care of business NOW increases the miniscule chance he won't resign as he will have already cemented his legacy in EDM

No reported injury, he played in the 4N, took face offs all year, so we have to assume he was healthy.
His lack of skating is more of a concern than his shot.

Normally you pay attention to this stuff, so I'm surprised you are unaware.

Matthews revealed during the end-of-season press conference that he had been dealing with an injury since training camp and that he had been heavily affected during the season.
Mathews admitted that injuries plagued his season and that he's not entirely clear if he was playing at 100% throughout the season.

This board's concensus was that it would have been an overpayment to match Hyman's contract offer.
Not just this board pretty sure it was consensus across all fanbases on here, save maybe the Oilers, that it was an overpayment. I'm rooting for the Oilers but some of their fans on their board are so leaf obsessed. Hindsight is 20/20.

All that production he's doing he wasn't doing in Toronto. Maybe they should shut up and enjoy it instead of whining but lil bro complex among some people outside of Ontario all across Canada is too much sometimes

The whole city seems to be obsessed with Toronto. This includes the management team that has aquired about a half-dozen Leafs over the past couple of years.
