Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

It's infuriating to thing about it...because of Matthews and Marner both being so greedy, that Leafs didn't have the cap space to re-sign Hyman...Hyman is as strong as a horse, and plays a heavy game.
They pulled the wool over the Leafs’ eyes. They knew after that first Boston series they weren’t good enough and weren’t going to be able, or willing, to compete in the playoffs and took the Leafs to the woodshed at the negotiating table.

What’s his trick?

Disappearing trick... when it matters.

Otherwise, the guy who you quoted is ridiculous... Matthews is about as well rounded a players as you could ask for... in the regular season. Plays defensively well, and when healthy (which isn't often enough), is an elite talent... even injured for most of the year he did well. It's a shame he hasn't figured out, or maybe doesn't have what it takes to succeed when it counts.

He wasn’t injured last year, at least nothing significant, probably a little sacroiliitis or something similar.

Man it's crazy to think Oilers are actually good at closing out series over the last several years despite having questionable defence and goaltending at times. Watching the Leafs you start thinking it's normal to struggle that much to win the 4th one.

McDavid is so danged good it’s hard to cheer against him.
He really is.

Interesting how Edm has rounded out their depth.

Showed today that in 2023 McDrai scored 44% of all of Edm goals in the playoffs.

This year with Hymans 2 in the third they have only scored 16% of Edm' goals.

2 of the best players in the world and still have good depth

And somehow with Draisaitl has a team built with Hyman,Brown,Kapanen,Klingberg and looking good.
McDavid plays like he has had a few too many Red Bulls. Nobody is questioning whether he is a playoff choker any longer. A shame for those that said he and Drai were not a playoff performers when trying to defend the 3 amigos.

Watching these 2 makes me ill to think anyone wants to keep going with our current setup.

They play hard and fast - hopefully Florida has enough left to oust them - but it’s not looking good.

Heard it all now. ‘Stonehands” Hyman was just described as having a goal scorer’s hands. So Leafy.
Maybe it wasn't Stonehands Hyman that's the issue, perhaps it's Magic Mitch isn't very magical...took Marner 9 years to hit 100 points...Hyman scored 54 goals last year with Edmonton...someone must be feeding him good passes, and it ain't Marner.

You know what is an often ignored point?

Why are we in a division with Tampa and Florida to begin with? It's like Northeast Division plus two orphaned markets from a defunct Southeast Division all so the New York to Washington corridor can have their cutesy little Metropolitan Division. Makes no geographical sense.

If anything, they should have a revival Southern Division with Dallas, Tampa, Florida, Carolina, Nashville and maybe Columbus since they have no connection to anyone.

The league is just absurdly run.

The fact that the Florida teams aren't in the same division as Carolina makes no need,.nor does the fact they're in with all the southern Ontario teams.

This whole wacky alignment seemingly was to find a way to keep Washington and the Pens together, but that hasnt been a legitimate rivalry in years. And Sid and Ovie will be out the league in a couple years anyways

Have you ever been to Florida in the winter? From an ex-resident, the entire state is flooded with snowbirds from the Northeast US and Canada.

Every Leafs game I ever went to in Sunrise was a sea of blue.

I mean, if FLA teams need snowbird runoff revenue to thrive financially. I dunno. It is what it is but it still doesn’t make sense for someone living in the Northeast to need to be in the same division.

No professional sports team in Miami, or Phoenix, or a few other citiies will ever draw if they're not successful.

Pro sports are not ingrained in the city culture the way they are in cities like Toronto, Boston, Chicago or NY. Most people in Miami were either born outside the US or are 1st generational Americans. English is the 2nd language.

It’s only game 3

Yeah having two Southeast Division teams orphaned in with the Northeast makes no sense, also the massive accommodation that’s going on for New York area teams. It’s ridiculous.

If they can’t make that nonsense work, just move to a conference model and just play it 1-8.
