Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

That's it for Ovi's 30s now. We are nearing the end of a great career. He only played beyond the 2nd round once in his entire career, though. Think about that.
the washington era and ovi himself should not be heralded as a huge success, nor should it be the goal to build like

Ovi was rather pedestrian in the playoffs considering all the hype surrounding him and the pieces he had

we are obviously worse, but washington is a team that got hot at everything at the right time to get their cup, other than that it's been disappointment and status quo from them

chicago, san jose, anaheim, montreal should not look at the caps and go "that's how i want the era to look". Both florida teams, kane and toews chicago, pittsburg should be their models

In 6 seasons Andersen couldn't get the Leafs past the 1st round and now he's 4 wins away from the SCF. Dude is is 6-1 in the post season with a sv% over .930
Carolina's not winning the Cup with him in net. I would bet money on it if I were a gambler, which I'm not.

he was just part of the big problem as he was maybe the most unclutch goalie of all time in our net

he also sold the canes comeback in game 6 from 3-1 up to 5-3 down giving those up in 23 shots

carolina is making it as easy as they can for him, and he is making the saves when needed for once.

Crazy that all division winners might be out by tomorrow.

Leafs need to buck this trend

Regular season can not be more meaningless. It's kinda alarming. We're watching 6 months of it for what? It doesn't matter in the slightest. I don't think there is anything that can be done about it, sadly.

leafs are trend setters

I think back in 18-19 every lower seed won the first round matchup.....except you guessed it the leafs

leafs are one of the only teams to comeback from 3-1 down multiple times and lose the game 7

leafs have one of the worst elimination game records ever

leafs have one of the worst elimination game power plays ever

leafs have one of the worst elimination game penalty kills

Sigh!

Good times.

We need the miracle that Bos had coming back on the Yankees. Even though they only need to win 2, it feels like 7.

I don't really see a Pedro, Schilling or Ortiz here though

Panthers and Oilers went full load management down the stretch and never cared about seeding or home ice

Nice luxury when you know your team will flip the switch come playoff time.

it feels like we are down 3-0 in the series and down 2-0 going into the game lol

I really wish they'd win the series, as I did since I was a teenager, but I've learned the hard way wishing only gets you so far

maybe I'll watch the oilers again this season and cheer them on...idk about that actually.

Most teams don't care. Florida, Edmonton, Dallas, even Colorado, Tampa. Teams like that don't care where they finish which renders the regular season meaningless.

Leafs have won only 2 series since I exited my teenage years. Turning 40 this month. It's kinda staggering to think about that actually.

Look who he's played so far. I expect his numbers will be poor in the ECF.

I wish I was in the land of cotton …….
My memories of Florida are the following:

1) If you're rich, young and single YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A LOT OF FUN. Being in a long-distance relationship while a ridiculously beautiful 18-year old several feet away from you makes her interest in you quite obvious was generational blue balls on my part. I would rather die than cheat but DAAAAAAMMMNN.

2) Waffle House is hysterical after midnight.

3) Florida Man is not a meme, he is a real thing.

4) Miami is very dangerous in a bad way after midnight. Like, no fooling. Stay in groups and if you go to the northern suburbs you are literally risking your life.

5) If you don't like humidity and swampass you have two choices: move to the coast if you can afford it, or partake in the other Southern pastime: complain about the weather.

6) If you find a Dollar General every 2 blocks, you've crossed the state line into Alabama.

I don't see McDavid leaving Edmonton after Draisitl signed long-term.
This is a common perspective that I have a different opinion on. I feel that's small timing a big time situation.

McDavid is bigger than the Oilers and certainly Drai. He is in a position where he needs to develop a lasting legacy as one of the best players of all time. Top three is probably the goal, with significant long term branding, personal, and financial ramifications.

Toronto theoretically could offer a lot to his story, but things couldn't be going worse. Feels all but gone at this point. Best bet is to try and get three cups with Oilers now.

Even recently it was inches away from going a different direction...kinda like that last lottery ball.

Yet the one time he did he hoisted the Cup. That'll last a lifetime and beyond.

Would rather that than making a bunch of conference and/or finals appearances and having nothing to show for it.

Young Ovechkin came to play in the playoffs despite Washington's failures imo. His body just can't do it anymore and I'm not throwing shade on an all-timer.
