Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Why I say the play for the Leafs might be to trade Matthews for a king's ransom and make a run at McDavid after next year. Could you imagine this team with McDavid in Matthews' spot right now?
Plus whatever you get back in a Matthews trade.

Trade Matthews and sign McDavid. The ultimate in double dipping.

Wonder what the lowest sv% is for a goaltender in a playoff run with like 5+ starts? Hellebuyck has to be up there this year.

You guessed correct, he is indeed the lowest. And even if you don't filter for games played, only Stuart Skinner and Charlie Lindgren are lower - Skinner only played 3 games, Lindgren 1 in relief of Thompson. Horrible

Rantanen is really showing the World that he is Batman instead of Robin.

I guess he was playing the Beta or even Charlie role on the Avs bc they already got two Alphas.

I thought the Avs Ranta trade was very interesting. They essentially ended up with three new centers, and very strong down the middle. Though they still tend to get into top heavy pond hockey type games - maybe a learning curve. Drawing Dallas was unfortunate.

But you have to wonder now if Ranta was just too good to overthink it.

Before the playoffs, Avs won the trade with Necas, draft picks and ability to get Coyle and Nelson at TDL.
As of today, Avs is the biggest loser.

Wondering what would happen next year today?

But nobody thought Rantanen will become the playoffs beast he is today. Heck, even the most died hard MM fans(if they are also true Leafs fans) are probably cursing MM in their mind for not accepting the trade to the Canes.
