Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Dallas defence corps may not look great on paper without Heiskanen but those forwards are still Cup calibre even without Jason Robertson. If they can drag this series long enough to get Heiskanen back good chance they can get out of this series and go deep.

Markstrom Hextall'ing his own man was a tough look. Luke Hughes writhing in pain during live action was also not the best look.

I dunno, I don't think New Jersey is anywhere close to contention. I think it'll take good health, a lot more maturation and probably some massive roster turnover for that group to mature. They're probably just entering those painful learning lessons years.
Their best players are still quite young and losing Jack Hughes before the playoffs is a big loss of course. It may not be their year this year, but they have plenty of time to get better and hopefully get a better goalie in net than Markstrom.

Leaf legend Colin Blackwell to the rescue LOL

McDavid with a heroic performance only to be let down by horrific D and G. Bouchard is clueless without Ekholm, and you have to think they'll start Pickard in game 2. Kuemper was also terrible
With a good goalie, the Oilers might've already won a cup last year and could probably consistently go far in the playoffs, but with Skinner in net they're usually winning in spite of him. Wonder when Edmonton will finally get around to getting a good goalie to play for them.

Wow!
The Oil come back from 4 down including killing a full 2 minute 5 on 3 and scoring 2 with their net empty and then immediately give up the softest goal ever.

😂
I just read the headlines on NHL.com saying the kings blew a 4 goal lead then scored with 42 seconds left and thought wow what a heartbreaker. Then read your post. Even more of a heartbreaker. I'm cheering for all the Canadian teams except Ottawa ofc. Skinner f***ing sucks. If McDavid retires without a cup he would probably have nightmares about this guy. I just don't understand how you have a contending team with a prime McDavid and you enter the playoffs back to back years with an AHL goalie. How hard is it to get a half decent goaltender?

They had a terrible off season. Instead of going after Ardvison, Jeff Skinner, and resigning Hendrique they could have signed their RFA’s cheaper than their offer sheets and signed Stolarz.
Hell if they could have found somewhere to dump Stu Skinner they could have taken a run at Tanev.

Even after all that I will never understand why they didn’t pay WHATEVER it cost to get Askarov. He was exactly what they needed.

Seriously if anyone hasn’t seen the game winning goal you need to go check it out. It’s so perfectly Oilers.
Terrible defensive coverage leading to a shot right between the has marks. But Danault completely flubs it.
Skinner decides he doesn’t want to try to watch the puck but look where he expects it to go and gives up a goal your grandmother could shoot harder. Even if she has sadly passed away.
