I agree with Bieksa and Hrudey (odd I know)...at some point Rangers need to outplay the opposition...they've been on outshot and outplayed in 9 of the past 10 games, relying solely on Shesterkin to bail them out

they're like the Canucks on steroids (or if Demko was healthy)

Only Cup winner I can think of the last 10 years with mediocre goaltending is the Avs. Otherwise the goalie was one of the better ones in the playoffs

Yep. I remember doing a 10 year snoop on cup winning goalies and the finalists. If I remember right, it was an average save percentage of right around .920 or a bit higher for the winners and a bit lower for the losing goalies. What’s his nuts with the Avs was the one outlier out of 20-ish goalies with sub .900 but the Avs could outscore their goaltending issues. The Oilers can’t.

Probably because he knows what he’s talking about.
I’m not saying Rangers will win the Cup but Mess never won one without a great goalie behind him. Oilers are a distant 4th of the four remaining teams in that regard.
And let’s not pretend he’s on a Canadian network. His opinion is meant for an American audience.
