The same way they beat TB? Any given game can go either way?
They probably could have won every game besides the Vegas and Dallas games. Its good in that it shows they can hang with anyone.
Its bad in that they have some flaws that need to be sorted out before they can be a powerhouse.

These number bode pretty well for us.

So the Bruins terminate Miller's contract.

Regardless of what you think of the signing, Bruins management comes out of this looking pretty bad. If you're going to make a controversial move like that, you need to do your due diligence first.

Apparently something new came to light?

I don't know, not condoning a thing the kid did......but FFS, he was 14 years old......if we can't let 14 year old kids come back from something very stupid they did...when they were 14.....what does that say about the society we are in?

If the press release from his agent is to be believed.....which I get it...press release, agent etc, but it's all verifiable....and if it's verified.....what is the issue? Assuming it's verified, are we really at a place where we are telling people, one mistake, one f***up, and you are done for the rest of your life?

hahaha, something new came to light -- yeah right. What was new is sponsors (read: money) came a calling.

Bruins were idiots for signing the kid knowing there would be a sh!t-storm coming their way (regardless if they felt he deserved a 2nd chance). Plus doing so without discussing it with the league.
But even more so idiots for caving once they decided to move forward after their due diligence and signing him. You don't make a move like that unless you are for sure willing to weather the storm. Idiots all around.

It's also the fact that he only directly apologized to the victim's family after being forced to do so by the Bruins. That's not a good look.

I would make the case that he made a series of (really awful) mistakes, then didn't bother to make up for the bullying for years, then found a willing partner to help him move on without accepting that he's been a POS for the entire time.

Very possible....but then again, according to the agent, he DID work to make up for it....(again, this has to be verified) If he did that...then what?

Yeah - here's the thing. I'm all for giving people second chances. I did stupid stuff at an even older age.

But contrition shouldn't be contingent on him playing professional hockey, which seems to be all that matters.

Can't play hockey at North Dakota? Just looks for a USHL team faster than some of these outreach programs contacted him. Some of which he still hasn't responded.

It's always about playing hockey for this kid. That's my problem with him.

My comment was purely from a management perspective.

After Miller was signed, Bettman said Miller was ineligible to play in the NHL. So the Bruins put themselves through all this bad PR for nothing.

Now the Bruins rescind Miller's contract in less than a week after signing him. They look like clowns.

Oh, 100%, my comment stems more from general comment, I saw the story this morning......sign him not sign him, my comment remains the same

These number bode pretty well for us.

Those numbers don't mean anything at all. Just a useless collection of digits that people WANT to mean something. Just like +/-, just like Corsi, just like any statistical compilation that has no ability to distinguish timing and momentum, the things that actually determine wins and losses.

Who cares that somebody should be scoring more but aren't? As though it matters that an algorithm dictates that fans should be comforted or satisfied with "knowledge" that their team isn't really as bad as they think because the slight difference in percentage points indicates it, or that their team is better than they should be because their expectations don't match results.

Just a colossal waste of time tainting opinions and decision making that is having a negative impact on the ability to understand what really does matter: consistency, mental strength and ability.

If you're going to make a controversial signing like this, you should:

1) Clear it with the league.

2) Get the blessing from the victim's family.

3) Have a PR campaign/presentation ready, explaining how Mitchell has improved himself and made up for what he's done.

4) Prep everyone in the organization and Miller himself to respond to media inquires.

It doesn't appear they did any of these. Bruins players have to answer media questions etc. about this. It's a total distraction, and you're putting them in a position where they could say something stupid that gets misconstrued in the media.

I know you don't like the analytics, and it's true they don't tell the whole story, but if you think they have no value at all, you're simply wrong.

They have to be put into context like any other data.

I will admit they're less useful, and more often 'wrong' in hockey, than most other sports.

There might be additional details that aren't public knowledge. I think there was a story that came out after Arizona drafted Miller back in 2020. After the court case was done, Miller would intentionally skate around the victim's neighborhood as to silently taunt the family. Those involved felt that his court mandated apology lacked genuine remorse. So it was a bad look if he continued to be defiant about it afterwards.

It'd be a different case if it was a one time thing. But allegedly he bullied the kid from elementary school through high school. And the only reason it stopped was because Miller had to move away to play in the USHL.

It's maybe different than say a 15 year old Casey Cizkias deliberately injuring an opponent during a rugby match and the kid died a couple days later. Cizikas expressed remorse and served his probation. The victim's family seemed satisfied with Cizikas' apology. Maybe in a post-Twitter world he would have received more flack although he did drop a little bit in the draft as a result.

The main concern about Miller is whether he ever truly felt sorry for what he did. I think most people would give him a second chance if he privately apologized/talked to the victim's family.

This right here.....which is why I did qualify it.....as being verified...that if he is doing what is agent is saying he is doing...etc.
