Vegas made a bunch of changes after losing in the cup final in 2018 .... 5 years later cup champions. 5 years later and the Leafs are still running it back with the same core.
Stone has always been known for his competitiveness. I recall reading that Patriots number one quality they look for in a player is competiteness (or something to that effect).

Marner, Tavares, Nylander, might be have the least amount of compete in them among active players. They don't get angry about being down, they don't get angry if they get pushed around, they don't get angry if they punched in the face.....Matthews I think shows passion and compete at times. So I give him a pass.

What really are the odds of these guys winning anything while eating such a significant portion of the cup? The sad part is that we keep trying to add "leadership" to a team with three 11 million dollar players

Knights were a few feet from the goal on majority of their goals and mostly from the slot. Marners average shot distance was 40+' ....and his slot shot was 10% worse than the next Leaf. Any goalie would have great odds saving his shots. That's a guy that was playing 40% of the hickey game for the Leafs.

I personally think its ridiculously bad coaching (the activate the D is stupid)... And soft players.

Leafs core in the playoffs are getting dummied and instead of fighting back they stair at the refs and then laugh at their opponent, who just finished rag dolling them. Each of Tavares, Matthews and Marner have done this in each of the past few playoffs. It might be ok for one leader to do this...but not all three. Meanwhile Pietrangelo was suspended once and almost a second time.

Florida dummied the Leafs and Vegas dummied Florida. Just an indication of just how far from being a stanley cup team the Leafs are. Leafs didn't look good vs the worst Tampa team in year's, they got dummied vs Florida...and I'm pretty sure they would've been best by Carolina and very easily by Vegas.

This team probably needs more than just a minor tweak.
Perhaps the hope is that a different coach can coax something greater out of the core/group? Beyond that, an on-ice change of significance (at minimum) just might be necessary. It'd be something new for me to witness this franchise even make a SCF like Florida just did (for a 2nd time)...to see them accomplish what VGK just pulled off would be :DD

This is why I still hold out hope. Saw the Caps do it when I least expected it so maybe the Leafs can follow suit too.

Keys to Stanley Cup wins:

Live in a shitty hockey market that Bettman loves.

Refs with gross game management and DOPS friendly discipline.

Ensure your team LTIR’s one of your best players for zero cap hit until playoffs.

This league is so bad right now.
WWE championships.

I like previous winners or guys that got close. When you win as a young man it seems to stick with you. Ive heard college football coaches say they like to recruit HS champions because they know how to win.

I posted the list of recent Cup winning cities and they’re pretty danged good markets. Vegas is one of the best market in the NHL, if not the best.

Great markets. Great game day atmosphere. Great broadcast. Large fan base. Great cities.
Not great markets.
Agree on atmosphere
Broadcast huh???
Large fan base - totally disagree. Vegas, it’s a destination. I would love to see the % of tickets for visiting team in Vegas.
Yes, warm cities. Awesome. Some - Tax free too.
