This is why if dubas doesn’t stay i want tulsky.

Carolina’s management literally looks at the playoffs as a series of coin flips. There is a lot of variance and chance.

They may win the cup but don’t go all in every year.

I was ok with rentals this year because of Matthews final year before D day.

And the Covid world made sense given the division and flat cap.

But I don’t want to wasting assets on players without term. That needs to stop
Leafs capped out and do a mini overhaul at the TDL. Canes have plenty of cap space and add little at the TDL. Problem is the Leafs can't ice a SC contender to start the season and compensate by adding at the TDL which costs draft capital. They need to step back and add some impact players they draft and develop. Their best prospect was Knies and he never played a game for the Marlies. That has to change.

I've been told that good goalies don't exist and simply that TOR can't score come playoff time. I think Carolina and Florida should be wildly concerned their offence had so much difficulty scoring.

Carolina averaging 1 goal/60 and Florida at 1.5...yikes.
Let's see how the Canes do in game #2 down 1-0. I doubt they do a Leafs and go up 2-0 only to blow it.

I keep thinking the Leafs have the horses to go all the way.

Then I watch a game like last night that was so quick-paced and intense, and feel like the Leafs would be completely overmatched and blown out of the water, unable to ratchet it up.

Wonder if JT will squeeze out a Conn Smythe worthy run in 2024 or 2025?

There is nothing to indicate that's even a remote possibility. If we go 4 rounds Matthews will have more goals. Marner most likely more assists/points. Goalie is always in the discussion when you go deep.

It could happen, but the odds are better for someone younger like Nylander or Knies to explode.

If your best player in 2025 is JT, there is no need to finish this sentence.

I was just messing around. Tavares is basically this decade’s Larry Murphy. If we could give him away for full cap relief, I’d be happy to see him win somewhere else.

The $10mm goalie that was an albatross.

He has to win to prove his worth doesn't he?

Losing this round doesn't justify the Price.

Counterpoint.

Would you rather have 1 X $10 mil goalie playing in the final 4 of the playoffs or 3 X $11 forwards nearly swept in round #2?

Goalie Bob has become the Carey Price :wg: of this years playoffs, and IMO is validating his AAV. when $10 mil Cap spent > $33 mil Cap spent.

If the Leafs could have swapped $11 mil Tavares for $10 mil Goalie Bob straight up would Leafs still be in this years playoffs?

That is playoff goaltending !!!
Goalies are such voodoo, though.

Andersen and Bobrovky were 26th and 33rd in Sv% (for goalies with 25+ GP) in the regular season, both less than Samsonov. Andersen wasn't even top on his team, and Andersen, again, had a .922 for us one playoffs and an .896 for us in the other,

Hot playoff goaltending is what we need but it's not really something you can plan for or around :/

Trading one of our $10M+ forwards for a $10M Bob would provide some entertaining shitposts though

Leafs are probably good enough to make the playoffs with an okay goalie.

What they really needed was Campbell's hot streak to have started in April.
However, Campbell was beat out by a rookie in Edmonton.
He's only good when he's in a rare hot streak.

Leafs likely would have done as well by starting Woll this year.

We got like .940 goaltending against Montreal and still f***ing lost.

The Leafs have had series where their stars showed up, where their depth showed up, where their defense showed up, and where their goaltending showed up. They have never had all of them show up at the same time. They are perpetually less than the sum of their parts.

Every time the Leafs get “goalied” in a series, it’s important to also take a look at what’s happening in front of them. In the case of CBJ, Montreal, Florida I saw a lot of big blue liners who retreated to defend the slot with physicality, contesting rebounds, blocking shots while conceding the perimeter for cycling.

I saw a transition game from all three teams that were opportunistic in the neutral zone, and could turn north aggressively. Carolina does the same thing.

Big body length defenders who can park a bus in the slot, block shots and contend rebounds, dumping the puck out of the zone, staying in structure in the neutral zone and waiting for counter rushes seems to elevate goalies.

Florida is also extremely sloppy relative to the other teams but recover on second and third effort. But sometimes when you’re hot you’re hot.

It's the trickle-down hustle from lines 1-3. It's damn good, the details to the game which Canes are good at as well. This series will be a dog fight, it's interesting for sure.

I guess too much attention in the hockey community today, so the Coyotes needed to remind everyone how much of a tire fire they are.... I mean... your arena plans... LOL... You have none...

arena plans :D show me your building money first!

No seriously you still need 20k likes to prove to sponsors you can potentially fill it with fans?
I hope that's not the case because that would be a "cancer kid" sad tweet otherwise.

Logan Cooley is returning to the Gophers instead of signing with Arizona - a pretty good sign of how members of the org are seeing things. Ironically the Gophers arena holds twice as many as the Coyotes college arena lol

I really hope that within the next year or two player for Arizona has the guts to publicly say something like this franchise has to either get their shit together or else I refuse to play. Or someone like Cooley refuses to sign an ELC and the window expires.

Or the NHLPA steps in and says something about they need to get a real arena this this "in flux" is not acceptable for a professional sports team.
