It will be interesting to see what the Devils decide to do with Meier in the offseason. 14 points in 21 games for them in the regular season, and no points at all so far in the playoffs, in four games. 14 points in 25 games overall. That doesn't really scream $10 million QO to me...or even something somewhat less. So far, he just hasn't fit in that well.

I think he'll turn it around tbh... he's too talented and has sandpaper in his game not to be relevant.

I think he's talented.. but sometimes people just don't mesh with others, or are the right fit for a system. Think of the guys who thrived in other places, after they've left us... or have done well here, and not in other places... team sports is as much about chemistry too.

Definitely agree with you that chemistry plays a part and meshes differently. I think this is likely the case of meshing at a different pace. Im a meier homer also that's why lol i hope faith

Yeah hes pretty much went from "being the guy" to being like the number 3/4 guy. Can be a tough adjustment. His situation is very similar to Ottawa with DeBrincat. Both teams paid quite a bit to get the player, both players had a kinda disappointing season on their new clubs, but both have extremely high QO that can walk them right to UFA.

That should have definitely been more than a game, imo.

Interference

Injury

No prior history

Who am I talking about here, Makar or Bunting????

Both are interference.
Both are illegal hits
Both caused injury
Neither player had history

So of course one gets 1 game suspension and the other gets 3 games suspension

I don't think Makar hit McCann in the head.

Joke. Anyone else gets more.

Hunter got 26 gsmes for a not so simular play.

Yup. Add this to the massive stack of evidence. DOPS is absolutely bias. I won’t get behind the Reffing bias but the DOPS is factually bias.

But there's nothing in the official rules that says head contact suspensions will be automatically 2 games more than those without.

The leagues statement on the Bunting decision mentioned that the victims injury and that the puck wasn't near as factors in their decision (both of which also happen to the Makar case)

I don't think the length of suspensions is defined anywhere. The league seems to take head shots more serious and I was just pointing out the difference in plays.

Fair enough.

And it isn't - the league imo continues to open itself up for criticism on this stuff by refusing to publicly release anything close to standardized guidelines and punishment lengths. The whole dpos system comes across as "we'll make it up as we go along".

100%

Best thing to do is not put yourself in the position where they can decide your fate.

Its the Hyman suspension with the playoff factor applied.

Makar's was later and less of a hockey play, plus youd expect the NHL has become less tolerant of needless hits causing injuries, but it doesnt seem so
