The Leafs kind of pulled this off in the mid-90s, going from peak Gilmour to Sundin, and Potvin to Cujo, which allowed them to contend for a while longer after re-tooling. Then the organization thought it’d be prudent to go without a #1C for 8 years, and without a #1G for 12 years.

Still a far cry from going from one generational goaltender to another. Stupid Rangers and Predators.

I know Tampa has kinda coasted recently, but it's pretty wild that the Panthers are only 5 points back of them. About 1/3 through the season, I was worried about that first rounder they traded to Montreal.
