Dubas could go with a Superman-Frankenstein of Shestyorkin, Vasilevskiy, and Markstrom next year and there would still be people doom-and-glooming him

Never going to make everyone happy

EDIT: lol Fogel had it
I mean, I dunno after 6 years in a row out in the first round, doo and gloom is appropriate with this management group. Dubas 4 in a row, and now no starting goalie and lots of holes. Sounds like a winning formula to me

Win a round and maybe some will be happy.

Dubas could also go with Vasilevskiy next year, and there would be people criticizing him.
How are they getting Vasilevsky?
That would be beyond exciting bringing a goalie with his pedigree.

Dubas could go with Hutch next year and there would be people here backing him
Is Hutchinson still under contract?
If he is he could very well be platooning with Mrazek

They would have to do major cap work to make that feasible.

They have no space and a bunch of bad contracts
They already started with Weber. Who knows what happens with Price.
If we keep living on a prayer with 4 guys making half the Cap, I’m sure other teams will figure there own house. I’d imaging Montreal would have to trade stuff off their roster for a Dubois.

They have less than $4 mil in cap space... assuming Price plays. That's with 19 guys signed.

@Trapper Sure, anything can be done... but that's a huge ask for them to fix that cap space... and not really smart. Sure, adding those three assets would be great... but the backend is so weak right now... do a proper rebuild.

When was the last time a ppg forward was traded for a goalie?

Most goalies, even starters tend to go for picks

Other team may have to add depending on who the bonified goalie is. What I was saying is that you are not getting a bonified #1 (like a Helley) for Kerfoot+.

I’ll taking hating as a champion any day, wouldn’t you?
I’d rather the team hated than laughed at.

Don't know about you but I'd eat crow if Dubas won a Cup for us. Unfortunately until he does, his "vision" is tainted IMO.

Win a Cup and they can pay 4 guys 80 million. Don’t care.
But as it stands, I’m not a big believer in the Dubas philosophy, paying 4 guys half the cap, or believing this is the right “core” to get it done.
All for reasons we have discussed.

I don't see "large" pay raises for Matthews or Marner tbh. I mean they're already very high lol. Matthews can set his price but I think after all the first round exits he might appreciate how not going for max dollars can help his legacy. And I don't think Marner is deserving or able to get a large pay raise tbh.
And even if people think AM is getting $16 million, the Leafs only need to clear a little more than $4 million in cap room to make that work.

Every other team has to clear $16 million in cap room to take him on and make it work. Which puts them at a huge disadvantage.

If they get their Cup, I doubt they care. We lose depth without winning a round. Riddle me what you prefer??
So with your logic no reason to complain about Kadri, because we should have traded him away at TDL or last summer.

While probably true, they'll have to find the cap space somewhere if they are to bring in a legit starter.
Someone will be moved if not directly then indirectly.

Winnipeg is definitely one of the least desirable franchises to be associated with, so I am not surprised Trotz doesn't want anything to do with them. such an unlikeable organization from top to bottom
