We were basicly on Tampas level most of the series. In the end the difference was Tampa having that momentum killing trap, that we don't have and we should learn. Tampa also got those timely goals in game 7, but we made their stars look like pedestrian and it was depth that made the difference. It wasn't some dominating team pushing Leafs away, it was one goal game in game 6 and 7.

In the end it doesn't matter, but making major changes is also a risk. Getting better should always be our goal.

Toronto does have a decent trap as well and even most of the big goals scored by Tampa were getting a lucky bounce or a lucky call (they have been getting these all playoffs).

I mean, if the refs just make a few calls on the guys waterskiing Matthews all series and the Leafs win. Im actually wondering if Matthews (and the other Leafs stars) will ever get respect from the officials.

Even strength penalties drawn this season:

McDavid: 46
MacKinnon: 36
Kaprisov: 42
Draisaitl: 27
Matthews: 12

I assure you the best goal scorer in the game gets as much abuse as these guys.

Matthews/Marner/Nylander combined: 31 drawn.

Even with all those stylistic differences, no difference with getting calls. It seems to be a Leafs thing?

That's a difference that cannot be explained away. At all. It's blatant.

Well if MLSE won't take this up with the board I guess they're okay with it.

Perhaps it is something that requires an add in a prominent paper?

This layoff certainly slows down the week, but hopefully it means we get better hockey.
Hopefully Point gets back and he’s somehow able to catch Makar with his head down.

I don’t like Eichel on the GN and I hope they can find a way to get him out of there. It’s probably going to take a change in management.
He is extremely skilled but all the interviews and body languages I saw from him indicated that he isn't a team first guy. A 100% wrong move to acquire him.

You care about Vegas? Huh., odd.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with my post about not necessarily all being Leaf fans on here. Which I was chastised for saying.

I don’t think he’s the type you win with.

They’re a great story, great atmosphere, and the best place to go watch a game.

I'm a big fan of looking at 5v5 xGF% to see how team systems are working (and that they are not getting carried by goaltending/special teams which is not a great long term solution) and Cassidy looks fantastic here.

To get Keefe involved here, looking at the top ten teams for 5v5 xGF% in both the regular season and playoffs since Keefe was hired nearly 3 years ago:

Regular season:
1. Bruins
2. Avs
3. Leafs
4. Knights
5. Hurricanes
6. Lightning
7. Flames
8. Panthers
9. Wild
10. Pens

Playoffs:
1. Pens
2. Knights
3. Avs
4. Oilers
5. Lightning
6. Leafs
7. Flames
8. Bruins
9. Hurricanes
10. Wild

Whats kinda crazy is that 9/10 teams in the top ten for xGF% during the regular season are also top ten in the playoffs. (and are also considered the best teams in hockey)

I think that goaltending is the real wildcard here. Teams like the Islanders in recent times and especially the Rangers this season have pretty awful 5v5 numbers but were carried by great goaltending and teams that should have made real runs have been let down by goaltending.

I'd like to see the Leafs luck into a Shesterkin somehow. If he had a real team in front of him, just pre-print his name on the cup. (of course he could all of a sudden fall from grace...friggin goalies)

We have decent and Tampa's trap is godlike. Like they just concentrate on defending and frustrating opponent. I don't us playing that way every time, but it's good tool to have.

We cannot control referees but at least our play we can affect. Those numbers are troubling.

I get what you're saying, but our PP has been dreadful in the last 3 playoffs and our bottom 6 has been completely dry.

Can't expect this roster, as built, to be a team known for locking down opponents in low scoring games.
