Holl's is so much worse than this. Paul doesn't even really touch him either.

Holl fully runs into the guy and on top of that falls down clumsily from the impact in typical Holl fashion. Brought too much attention to the pick for an easy call.

Now try watching the clip with your blue and white glasses.

That is not saying the refs are not terrible. Not sure who it was but a Tampa dman had his arm around a Ranger's neck directly in front of the ref and no call. The penalties on Schneider and Miller were weak. Just shows that a penalty in the first is not always a penalty late in the same game.

Holl‘s stupid play will forever be remembered in Leafs lore.
Not just because of his play, but because he was a vital MUST protect piece in the expansion draft. If Holl, best case scenario was in Seattle, or at least remained pinned in the pressbox like he started the series things might have turned out so different.

“Fate is a cruel mistress” suggests that fate has an inevitable influence and is not only hazardous, but can be oblivious to the feelings of those it affects, based in the decisions being made.

GM, coach and player alike all played a part in Leafs fans cruel fate to another disappointing season.

There are pick plays in the NHL all the time, but only the select few have the ability to make it so obvious that it had to be called. A dman comes down from the blueline and takes out the opposing teams center in his Dzone face-off dot, and then falls down from the collision. You are right that play will be long remembered.

Yeah I definitely think the refs are trash. But that one specific play, Holl makes it impossible to not call it a penalty. I mean, that fall at the end after stopping Cirelli in his tracks  Whether you're biased or unbiased you have no choice but to call that. It's way too obvious of a play.

Sucks too because JT had his man beat on the curl out and would have got the shot off regardless. Would have been 3rd dominant game in a row with an appreciation thread instead of trade proposals.

I made post in round 1 that nobody takes serious that Tampa has perfected the art of skillful cheating in the playoffs. They recognize what refs are willing to let go, and cash in on it. When you bring up consistency and compare what a team got called for versus what tampa got away with it, in most cases you will agree Tampa executed the penalty better / in a way the odds are lower they get called.

Three rounds deep now if you think I wasn't onto something you're just blind at this point. It's a skill that can take you far in the playoffs. Just a very smart team overall starting from the coach.

Those Tampa Bay Lightening are such a well built and coached team, and their players are clutch coming up big in key situations, all starting with their Goalie on down.

Maybe if the leafs had that kind of fire/pushback

Reading this, I can already hear the cryfest,

"We don't want our players getting hurt!"

"Our stars shouldn't fight"

"That's what Clifford is for on the bench!"

Good on Laf though, 20 years old and he showed more courage there than the sum of Matthews/Marner/Nylander have in six years.

I think it's good for us. We and our front office can witness what happens in that series. We have to make decision on goaltending and in some way about our defense. That is good series to follow. Mediocre goaltender with offensive team against Vasilevsky with Tampa.

Though I wouldn't write off Rangers yet. Those games have been close to this point. It's bounce here and there that will make difference in the end. It ain't over until it's over.

Up until yesterday I gave the Rangers a very good chance of pulling this off.

Can you imagine the lock-down the Lightning would have put on had the early post went left rather than right?

Rangers had some excellent opportunities late just couldn't connect on some passes. And I thought some of their better chances were from guys who probably aren't known as finishers, example Strome.

I think it's fair to expect them to take this series, but it's always bit premature to talk about next series in 3-2 phase of pretty tight series in overall. One goal games can go either way.

That's why they play 7 and not 5 ...

Obviously, odds favor Lightning, they've won 3 straight, and Shestirken was luck away from being blown out.

"emotional mob" lol
What would you call yourself zeke?

Zeke's opinions tend to overly rosy and unpopular, while you regurgitate sports radio talking points. I'd say he was pretty accurate here.

They are the new Boston.

It’s likely cultural. Tampa has a culture of winning and most of their players seem to have a high hockey IQ and that mentality permeates the team. The Leafs, on the other hand, continue to make inept plays at the worst possible moment.

Like many have said, it’s laughable.
