My only wish in that game is that Drai doesn't score any goals so Matthews can run away with the lead for the Rocket.
After squeaking out a win last night, they're actually 3-4-1, but that's basically full blown meltdown mode here.
Jack "better than Matthews" Eichel with 5 points in 8 games so far.
The guy just came back from massive injury/surgery so not sure if the second comment has any relevance at all. Also haven't heard people say Eichel is better than Matthews for quite a long time.
Matthews has always been better than Eichel, but opposing sentiment still lingers, even if Eichel's name has largely fallen into the background this year with him not playing. I assume that similar to Matthews coming back from his surgery for his injury that he played through last year, Eichel is a bit rusty, and will probably boost those numbers up moving forward, but his numbers thus far are still relevant and noteworthy, even if you'd like to apply additional context to those numbers.
Obviously small samples like 8 games don't make a player (which some here would benefit from remembering), but it's still interesting to follow how he's doing on his new team and how his team is doing with him, when a lot of people assumed his numbers would increase and turn Vegas into some crazy powerhouse.
His numbers after 8 games having come back from major back surgey are not relevant sorry that is crazy. Not nearly a large enough sample size and the entire sample size would be while he is rusty as you said. Think how Nylander played while missing a portion of the season and training camp. Put up shit numbers the entire rest of the season. It is very difficult to miss training camp + large portion of the season and get back up to speed.
I would hope anyone, including yourself, would apply context to his situation....
Of course, but applying context does not mean ignoring the numbers you're applying context to. I responded to a post discussing Eichel, and Vegas' record with him, and posted their record and Eichel's performance thus far. I'm not sure why you're so upset about this. Everybody is aware of the context of Eichel's situation. It's not some big secret. And I literally just supported applying context about his situation to his numbers, and said that his numbers would likely increase as he becomes less rusty. That doesn't change the fact that his performance and Vegas' performance thus far are noteworthy, especially in response to somebody discussing that literal topic.
If Eichel was off to a crazy hot start away from Buffalo, and Vegas was on a crazy winning streak with him, do you not think it would be discussed?
You didn't just post his stats, you used it to compare him to Matthews in a way that makes no sense at all. I dont think his performances thus far are noteworthy, he just came back from a huge injury halfway through a season with a new team in a new conference. I dont think his current play is any indication of how he will play for Vegas in the future once he gets up to full speed, gets used to his new team, new linemates etc.
To your second paragraph, yes I think it would be discussed because he would be overcoming huge odds and it wouldn't be expected of him.....

Well then you don't have to participate in the discussion. I'm not sure why you're going after me when I wasn't even the one who brought up the topic.
I mean, either his performance on his new team and how the team is doing with him is noteworthy or it's not. You can't just change your mind based on how things are going. A lot of people were predicting that this trade would boost Eichel's numbers and rocket Vegas into this crazy good team, so similarly, we're looking at something that is unfolding opposite to many people's expectations.
You used meaningless stats as a way to try to prove Matthews is better. Just so unneeded, Matthews is obviously better, you don't need to use some stats after a player had major injury and returned halfway through a season to prove your point. It just makes your argument seem less credible.
Lol, no I didn't. That wasn't the point at all. The player and team stats I posted were noteworthy and relevant to the post I replied to. You're wildly overreacting to a nickname used for Eichel that mocked the silly idea that Eichel was going to get away from Buffalo and prove that he was better than Matthews all along.

Ceci is actually having a pretty good year. Well worth the contract they gave him.
When it comes to anything defensively, he is pretty much the best guy the Oilers had and if he was the #4 on your team, you have a very strong defense.
The problem for the Oilers is that he is the best guy the Oilers have had this year defensively.
Oh I know. I didn't actually mind him when he was here. I just looked at the stats for tonight's game, saw edmonton was playing with 7 d, and saw that ceci is second in ice time, 5 minutes behind nurse, and the closest to ceci was lagesson and he's another 4 minutes behind ceci. So I just find it funny that they are playing 7 d, and can't trust 5 of them to play more than 10 minutes a game.

im not a fan personally, the cost is too much and we don't need more offensive minded d men. we need rough and tumble stay in front of the net and clear it not another one that's going to make a stupid pinch every other time the puck leaves the offensive zone

I’m going to be so f***ing pissed when Boston passes us AGAIN after we were ahead of them the first half of the season. Just like 2018 and 2019 when we last had normal seasons. f***s sake, I was worried in January when we were faltering but it looked like the Leafs had finally figured it out. All they figured out was how to extend the f***ing charade. God f***ing damnit.

So many Habs fans at the Oiler game today!
For a city with basically only the Oilers as entertainment, there sure are tons of fans who don't root for the Oilers and make it known when teams such as Leafs and Habs come to town. Never seen an arena with fans rooting for the opposing team as the Oilers barn.

I feel the same but only way angrier.
But honestly my expectations were very low this season and I will watch on the premise of surprise me.

I'm not even thinking too much about that too much now. Just get in the playoffs and anything can happen. Either way, we will be facing a really good team even if we won the division. I know maybe it's a losers attitude but thats where I am at.

If the Leafs finish first in the division, you know they are playing well and have their goaltending issues figured out, but to squeeze in the playoffs as a wildcard? Not so much.

I know.I guess it’s because a lot of folks from the Atlantic Canada, Ontario and Quebec took their fandom with them when they moved to Alberta.
