Woof.

Kane is a problematic person anyway. Between being run out of Winnipeg by his teammates, being sold off for pennies by a Buffalo Sabres team that frankly needed the goals & declaring bankruptcy in San Jose in spite of his 7M per season salary - this HAS to be taken seriously and investigated.

This will get swept under the rug by the league, like every previous scandal before it. The league is famous for playing the scandal shell game. They know that they will have endless scandals, so don't address any of them, knowing that in a few days a new one will occur, and take the heat off of the other ones.

Gambling is a lot different than sexual assault and the like. This one actually threatens their credibility where they can more or less toothlessly condemn the Blackhawks or Habs and throw others under the bus.

Just like how baseball swept all the steroid bullshit under the rug until they simply could not anymore but threw Pete Rose on the pyre immediately.

We already had a ref that was caught on mic saying he made up a penalty to even up the game. He was on his last year reffing and was going to retire anyhow, so the league did nothing but had him miss his remaining assignments, and issued a token statement that it was unacceptable. Nothing else. Pretty sure it's because the ref did so under their instructions, to keep things close, parity, etc. That should have been a huge deal, but after a few days uproar, it was basically forgotten. Had huge implications in the credibility of the league. But it was basically ignored, and replaced by the next scandal, much like this one will. Sure hope I'm wrong, but history suggests I sadly won't be.

Speaking of cover-up...

The Knights posted a fancy "Thank you Fleury" graphic on Instagram - only to get (rightfully) roasted by commenters.

That "expansion team darling" narrative is fading faster and faster with every passing year. Can't wait for the day when they start competing with the Coyotes for lowest attendance.

I know fans seem to think that being ruthless to get the players you need is the way to go but it sets a precedent in the long term. Vegas is getting a reputation, and while some players may not care, the fans are starting to and it could bleed into profits (merch sales, attendance etc).

Holland said in an interview regarding the Bear trade that he doesn’t like to trade players and that you get attached to them as they are real people. Vegas is run with seemingly little regard to this and while it might benefit in the short term, I doubt it pays off long run. People like to feel like they belong and are valued, sure, money is involved but people leave more money at jobs for a better fit and security all the time

The draft GDT was virtually threatening to crucify Holland if he so much as sniffed at Raty.

Now we're going to pine after Raty as if he's the next Shane Doan?

Never change, HFOil.
I guess we're going off topic a bit here, but I loved the Holloway reaction at the draft compared to this year.

Then:Bah they drafted a guy from the AJHL bah what the hell they don't know ahhhhhh who is this guy?

Now: He has size, he can skate, good numbers in Wisconsin, can drive a line, let's slot him in the top 9 for 21/22.

Report: Sharks players don't want Evander Kane back on the team

Don't have an athletic membership some I'm not exactly sure what teammates had to say, but one has to really wonder at what point is SJ looking to see if they can terminate this contract.

Seems one way or another the team is just sick of the guy.

From the article:

According to one source, the frustration with Kane stemmed from a general “disrespect for team rules,” such as being late for practices and games.
“And zero consequences came, which caused a ripple effect with other, younger guys,” added the source. According to another source: “It wasn’t easy dealing with him this season.”

Similar issues to his time in WPG. Can see why vets would be fed up.
