Around The League 2020-21 offseason part III

What is "everything else" that has been confirmed as true?

The same article made allegations that there were concerns about DeAngelo's treatment of Miller, though they did not cite any specific examples. They cite "multiple sources" saying his treatment of Miller had become a concern, though they had also cited "multiple sources" regarding the puck incident that was later proven false. Has a reputable source confirmed anything regarding his treatment of Miller being part of the issue?

The altercation with Georgiev has essentially been verified and that seemed to be the final straw for the Rangers. David Quinn is on record saying "This isn’t about one incident. It’s not about one thing."

Has any more detail come out regarding what exactly happened between DeAngelo and Georgiev or the other issues this season (since the Rangers felt comfortable enough to sign him to an extension this past offseason) that led to the Rangers waiving him? I have no doubt he did things to deserve that, I'm just curious what has actually been verified since there seem to be a lot of rumors going around.

It definitely was not a good for those rumors about Miller to go as far as they did without Miller’s participation. It put Miller in a bad spot, if he has something he wants to publicly say about DeAngelo then he’ll say it. That’s why blogs aren’t seen as serious journalism.

We can’t peer into DeAngelo’s soul and I don’t find it productive to debate just how terrible a person he is. Tampa traded him two years after drafting him, Arizona trading him one year after trading for him and he lasted three seasons (and 8 games) with the NYR organization before wearing out his welcome there. I think it’s safe to say he’s not a persecuted victim here. The Rags will likely buy him out if they can’t trade him.

We aren’t ever likely to get that much more info. Some comments did make it sound like DeAngelo was, understandably, on his best behavior before the contract was signed. The Rangers, having failed to trade him and not wanting to lose him for nothing, may have convinced themselves it would work out.

I'd rather have him on my books than Tyler Johnson if I'm TB. DeAngelo's buyout isn't bad at all though so I don't know why the Rangers would want a long term bad contract just to get rid of him.
No, I mean why would anyone want this guy around your team. He's toxic as hell and only causes trouble. This is the second team where he's worn out his welcome.

They might trade for him without actually adding him to the team. Or maybe they give him a 4th (5th, 6th?) chance with zero tolerance for bad behavior. Anyone trading for him is doing so for primarily financial reasons I'd guess.

Completely different situations in my opinion, he wasn't good enough to play at the NHL level on a regular basis and he had a whole slew of issues with his agent and parents and a history of being abused and controlled. That whole story was a mess but very different from DeAngelo not knowing how to not be a piece of garbage to his teammates.
you are absolutely right, I don't know what I was thinking

Why would any team want DeAngelo at all?

Because there is talent there - I mean the guy was 4th overall in the league in points as a defenseman last season as a 24 year old.

Now is that worth the headache of all the off-ice issues he seems to bring as well as how detrimental he can be to a locker room? For most (maybe all) teams, probably not.

Word will certainly get around the league (if it hasn't already) about what DeAngelo's issues were during his time on the Rangers that led to them parting ways. Have to also assume there were probably issues in Tampa and Arizona that caused them to ship him out as well. As fans, we don't really know the extent of what happened.

I'd be surprised if another team picked him up this year and I don't know if there's a path back to the NHL for him. If there is, it would have to be a veteran team full of strong leaders and a strong coach that wouldn't tolerate any of his shit and would have him on a short leash. They would also have to believe that whatever his issues are could be corrected, but who knows if that's the case. Maybe he goes overseas for a few seasons, gets humbled, grows up a bit and actually works on making meaningful changes.

I think he'll get another shot on talent alone, but like others have said will be on the shortest leash or he'll be off to the KHL.

It truly is astounding to me that he's had these issues since he's played junior and still hasn't changed.

Not that I want to see this happen but just imagine if the Rangers went on a roll now that a major distraction is out of the room.

Sabres game apparently cancelled tonight. I saw a rumor post saying they have at least 1 positive case.

Take this with a grain of salt. IB is just your ordinary guy who seems to have some contacts in the NY/NJ area, especially within the Islanders org.
